{ DIY Thrifty BARN DOOR Divider }

EEEK, I'm so so excited to share this post with you guys!! I've been wanting to finish this project in our dining room for so long & it finally was completed 2 week's ago , and today is the reveal! So a little back story on why we wanted to hang this 1940's vintage barn door in our dining room..We have two big rescue dogs & a bunny. The bunny { Mr. Wibbles} stays in my office downstairs & sometimes we don't want Stinker & Stew downstairs without us. We have used a generic $10 baby gate since we moved to this house & let me tell you it's been ANNOYING & I may have tripped/ fell/ knocked it over 1000x!! We had this barn door in our treasure pile & have been wanting to hang it for the last year..You know that thing called life happens & we got distracted with business things, family stuff etc.. Two weekends ago we had some free time so I had my lovely husband hang it for us. It's an authentic vintage barn door that my husband found free on a job site..{ he finds the best treasures- Thanks, Mark ;)! }. It's old, & isn't perfect by any means, but that's what gives it that barn / farmhouse charm. The track, handle, nails & basically everything is original.. Come see this massive barn door & all of its glory!

The door is super heavy & like I said above has many flaws, but is also very functional for what we use it as- a room divider/barrier. Right where the door closes at was a pocket door that closes the dining room from the back door & basement area. The previous owners tiled it in :(... I love the divider & it keeps the dogs out when need be.

How To:
The track is original as well as the wheels, so they had to be greased up A LOT!! One part on the track is bent a bit { it's too old to be disturbed }, but again it gives that cozy farmhouse charm I crave so much. My husband leveled the track & drilled some special screws into each hole on the track & then we both lifted this beast onto the track..Seriously it was SUPER SIMPLE and HEAVY hahaha. This project with the chalkboard paint cost under $20!!!!!

This is the original handle/lock & I loved it so much to pull back & forth, I think I may keep it!!!!!

I wanted to keep the decor super simple on the dining room side, so I just added a vintage white apron that was my great grandpa's , a tea towel & simple wreath. I can't wait to play around with this for holidays etc..

Side Note: The Tea towel is from +HomeGoods , the greenery is from +IKEA USA & the tote is from +Michaels Stores . The picnic basket was free vintage find.

I love the old nail beading at the top & bottom..The charm goes on forever with this door. The stories it probably could tell ;).

I added the chalkboard paint to the wall so when the door is pulled the wall isn't completely bare. The door sits super close to the wall so this was the best option & neutral/ easy to work with. I also added some clear stick-on rubber grippers to the back of the door so it doesn't scratch anything.

I wanted to jazz up that chalkboard square, so I lined it with some silver thumb tacks for a more custom industrial framed look. This whole project was super easy, thrifty & now so functional!!! I really hope you guys love this & gather some inspiration..I mean this was from junk..I'm still amazed a bit. Let me know what you think of this project below!:)

Have a lovely Wednesday friends!

{ Farmhouse & Kitchen Counter Decor Ideas & Tips.. }

Oh Monday....you were brutal to me ha. I hope you guys had a lovely Monday & start to the week!! So before I get started with today's post I'm going to be honest ..it's going to be a short one. I was walking up the stairs with some laundry & smashed my right hand into the door-fold. I now am the proud owner of my very own Mickey Mouse hand oh & my husband smashed his index nail off today - HAPPY MONDAY FOLKS eek!... Okay, back to the post..so I've noticed not only in this blogging world, but friends / family etc.. having trouble in a spot I would never think to blog/ talk about..the kitchen counter!! It's one of those spaces that you want to keep minimal with the decor, but also cute still right?! I came up with some simple cottage & farmhouse decor to display that doubles as useful items/ goods to have out.

I like to keep things fresh looking on the counter, but also items that I will use or use on a daily basis. Yes, some of the goods are just for looks like the flowers, but most of the stuff I have on the counters are used daily. I even use that vintage watering can that is on display with the silver cake stand. The watering can holds all our soaps & sinks stuff.  The mason jar lamp is used every night, but also doubles for that cozy cottage vibe. The cutting board is used a lot & the candle I like to have my the sink because lets be honest it's a s i n k...

This "General Store Sign" was a DIY --> DIY SIGN

The doggies may have gotten those cookies....;) . Tea towels are another item to dress up the counters & are also useful.  These neutral striped ones are from +IKEA USA  as well as these little springy mugs.

I've been collecting crocks for sometimes now & I've started collecting the mini sets too..These like a lot of the counter decor are used & not just for looks. They're used for honey, soups etc.. The bread box  { Search under -Popular Posts - for the tutorial } is another example of farmhouse decor on the counter, but in our case it's used!! Mason jars are that staple item that display nicely & can be used so broadly & on the cheap!!

There are pieces like these faux ceramic eggs from +Hobby Lobby  that I just use as decor. I like using items to display that you would naturally see on the kitchen counter.. I mean obviously not all of it, but I try to keep it simple & functional.

The butter dish is from +HomeGoods  & the rolling pin is vintage.

I hope this post was helpful in decorating your counters. With a few simple goods it can look fresh & clean, yet still cozy!  I hope you all have a lovely Tuesday..I'm off to ice my hand.

{ Faux Farmhouse Utensils for Under $10!!! }

Happy Tuesday sweet friends, readers, family ..EVERYONE hehe!!! Thanks so much for stopping back in on my little growing blog! So today was one of those days where I didn't sit down until 10pm..no joke. I got so much done today including painting, cleaning & some DIY projects lined up for the blog...I know, me planning blog post - Uhh crazy right?!? Anyways if you're following me via Instagram or Facebook { Links below for both } then you would know we've been doing a semi major overhaul in the kitchen. We've added a vintage pantry door, 1940's barn door & with all that comes decor changes too... I picked up this sign I love from Hobby Lobby & needed something to put next to it to fill the space..So knowing how I am, I went searching for something I already had in the house , and came up with all these extra bamboo utensils I had bought from Bed Bath & Beyond for $7! I wanted them to look aged & have that old worn/aged/used farmhouse look..so I broke out some $1 black paint & essentially dry brushed some black paint onto them. See how super simple this project is & all for under $10!!! I mean of course the authentic farmhouse/ cottage utensils are amazingggg , but not for $10 a piece at some of the vintage shops...Come see how to make these for cheap & in about 20 minutes time!
1.)
So I started out with these clean dry utensils..I decided to use a $1 store brush that was 2'' for easy application. The 2'' is about how wide the utensils are so it helped hit in the right places for that desired aged look. You can use any brush though.

2.)
This is what one application of paint looked like. Be sure not to saturate the brush, but more use a "dry brush" technique. I wanted more of a distressed look, so I added a bit more in some places..You really can't mess this up. If you happen to apply too much, just use a wire brush to buff some off.

Side Note: I used regular $1 "dollar spot" paint from +Target , no fancy chalk paint for this DIY.

P.S. I promise those cookies weren't staged there haha..They were leftover from our weekend BBQ.

3.)
So here is what they looked like after 2 or 3 brush strokes with minimal paint on the brush.

I love how they turned out!! I'm giving you guys a sneak peek at the dining room revamp too.. Sign is from +Hobby Lobby  for $20 originally $50!

I hope you guys liked this SUPER SIMPLE cottage/ farmhouse DIY. I mean when it comes to projects I like to keep it as practical as possible & this pretty much demonstrates that haha. Oh, I should mention too this DIY is super rental friendly too, because I used +3M  to hang these!!!

{ Comfy Spring Guest Bedroom Refresh }

Hey everyone!! First happy Friday & second happy almost weekend, right?! I don't know about you ,but I'm so excited about the upcoming weekend..We've got a project we're working on & another I'll be finishing up!! Sometimes random projects that just work out so perfect make my heart flutter { more on that project next week } & today was one of those dayssss! I'm not going to lie or sugarcoat anything, but I've been going through a rough patch.. Things are a bit rough with getting everything in order business wise, and other stuff.. & when plans don't go as planned out it drives me up a wall..ocd crazy!! I've been trying to work on my patience, but sometimes the worries get the best of me..It's one of my daily struggles... When I'm struggling I tackle projects, or house things with my indie music playing to keep me physically/ mentally going.. Our house isn't perfect nor our projects, but we're real & hopefully can inspire one of you at some point.. After all your sanctuary wherever or whatever that may be is your place of renewal , right? :)! Anyways today I'm sharing our guest room spruce up all for under $25! I was laying in there  { I was sleeping in there while my hubby's eye was healing from an accident } & was looking around & felt bored with the decor..The next day I had a girly day with a friend & decided to grab a few simple goodies to spruce it up for spring / neutralize it! I wanted it to feel like a southern cottage style room with a botanical feel too if that's a style haha..Me & my ideas hahah.

I had some comfy white pillows & brand new white sheets so I just needed a simple & on the cheap decorative pillow, so I picked this $7 check one up at +IKEA USA .

I'll be painting the furniture in this room soon, but for now I just kept the decor neutral with pops of silver & black mixed with some greenery. Since it's finally warming up here in the mitten I can get my hands dirty painting this guest room furniture how I've wanted to for months!!!! ;)

So keeping with that "southern botanical cottagey feel " I added some vintage goods we had stashed in the garage..The pitcher, screen & old bucket of flowers! I added the fresh  rosemary painting from +HomeGoods . The lamps were a DIY { search right side of blog for tutorial } & the  greenery is from Ikea again.

I scored those wicker baskets with the plaid lined rim for under $5 a piece at +Hobby Lobby !! I got 3 & they were perfect for the space. The magazine holder is from +Marshalls  , the chair was free & the rugs were from our condo.

This little corner used to house our niece's toy dolls & stuffed bunnies..I thought the rustic bucket of flowers was enough, I've since then added some cozy pillows.. The wall art is from +IKEA USA  & I got both of them for $1!!!!!! I didn't want them framed..I wanted more of a simple look so I used silver tacks for an effortless simplistic look..

This vintage wood shadow mirror was a thrift find from my mom! I added some little trinkets , keys, doves & succulents. The antique bed is a family "treasure".

I really hope you guys liked this little room spruce up. It's the most simple styling, yet so cozy & fresh! Have a lovely weekend & I can't wait to share some new { bigger } projects on the horizon!

{ The Best Farmhouse & Cottage Decor From KIRKLAND'S & something new starting on TQS for you guys!!!! }

Happy Wednesday friends!! I hope your week is going great so far. Today I had one of those days where I spent the entire day out of the house enjoying some sun, shopping, maybe ice cream hahha & some much needed girlfriend time. I'm not going to lie I'm pretty much a homebody these days & I love it most of the time!! I mean I work from home, love home stuff etc.. but sometimes it's nice to get out not only on couple time ,but girlfriend time & today that's what it was all about!! I met up with a friend & we walked / shopped ,and had some yummy treats { Thanks girl } hehe & just enjoyed the day.. So we hit probably 7 stores today & randomly came across the new Kirkland's next to Ikea & oh  gosh...really nice!! As soon as I walked in I grabbed my phone & started snapping some pictures of goods { This new Galaxy 7 camera is making me lazy with my Nikon ha}..I mean it's such a bright, cozy & fun store, not to mention it's NEWWWW! So I know HomeGoods, Ikea, Michaels, Marshalls, Pier1 Imports etc.. are really popular right now { I love them too }, but I haven't been in a Kirkland's in ages mainly because there weren't any local to us practically EVER. I was so pleasantly surprised I thought I'd blog a few of their items I liked ...P.S. they're really affordable too!!

I walked in & was immediately hit with some fresh spring fragrances, and such a bright & cozy store. It's huge, but was filled with bunches of flowers, cute chippy furniture & decor so it made it feel like a boutique with unique goods instead of a generic department store.

I was so surprised with the amount of farmhouse & cottage style goods...Usually chains like this have more trendy/ mass produced decor items, but this Kirkland's had quite a few of these style items..I loved this faux vintage farmhouse cow picture...If only I could find a place for it haha!

This item stopped me right away..So we all know the wood, glass & greenery is super trendy right now..Well, not everyone can afford vintage treasures, or find the time to go junkin' etc.. I love that Kirkland's offers stuff like this as a set.. Everything is included minus the flowers {which you can buy at Dollar Tree} all for under $50!!!

Ahh these lamps...again so popular right now!! They were pretty large & I love the neutral farmhouse/cottage style!

Their greenery, plants & flowers were all really reasonable compared to some of the other home decor stores too!

Okay, this was my absolute favorite find!! This 4 piece canister set was HUGE , so charming & was on sale for $25!!!!! They're ceramic,heavy duty , farmhouseyyy plus CHEAP!! Oh,I think I'm going back for these!!

I hope you guys liked this type of post...I wanted to try something a bit different & take you guys along on some of my shopping trips & what I found that I  thought you guys would like also... I think I'm going to be doing this shopping with me & blogging the goods I spotted and liked the most at least once a week..Something fresh & new ,and also helps you guys get some ideas if you don't have the time to hit different stores for certain items! What do you guys think of this idea???

As always THANK YOU for stopping in on my little growing blog. I know everyone says it, but I honestly appreciate each of you for sharing my posts, commenting etc....I'm not the biggest or most popular blogger , but I am humble & practical ,and  hopefully helpful or inspiring in someway :).
