{ 7 Practical Christmas Tree Decor Tips!!! }

Hey ya'll!!! I hope you had a lovely weekend..Ours was definitely filled to the max, but also fun because we finally got to tool around together, get some errands done, enjoy Christmas decor & we finished our 2016 Christmas card which I live for haha! Sooo with all that being said, I wanted to come on here & have a fresh post from a spot in our little suburban cottage decked all out for Christmas & fresh for you guys to read...Yep total fail today!! I photographed the whole space & realized as I was editing that I left something out & it wasn't fixable as I don't use Photoshop or any other "high tech" photo editing programs. So I might have had two Reese's after that little episode & then jumped to Tuesday's post & switched Monday's...So, today I'm sharing 5 practical decor tips for your Christmas tree!! These are the easiest & most practical tips that anyone can follow to achieve that cozy, festive & stunning professionally decorated looking tree!!!!  I will say first though, because I know I'll get e-mails that I'm in no way a "professional"  tree decorator or claim to be. I've just gathered some tips as the year's have gone by & thought I'd share what I do to maybe help or inspire you in some way this season.

1. FLUFFING

Fluffing the tree is the first thing you need to do before anything. Make sure all the branches are spread evenly & any gaps are pulled together & the branches are nice & big! This is mostly for artificial trees, but real trees also need a little help sometimes.

2. LIGHTS

Add your lights of your choice to your tree! If your tree is pre-lit than just make sure all the bulbs are in working condition & spread nicely around the branches etc..

3. RIBBON/ GARLAND

Our tree is pre-lit, but even when we do have real trees we always start with this step immediately after the lights! I like to go with the traditional 3-4 cascading loop around! I also like to make sure that my ribbon in some way coordinates with my wrapping paper & larger ornaments etc..

Giving you a little sneak peek of our lower level decor & tree..#staytuned!

4. ORNAMENTS/ BULBS

The next step is to add your bulbs & other ornaments you have chosen for the year's theme. Place the larger ornaments on the outside branches to showcase them & a few inside closer to the trunk for dimension! I like to use two different textured bulbs in the same color or similar & then add one large more custom picked ornament! The smaller ones will add uniform, while the larger ones will add charm & showcase more of your theme/style.

The silver assortment of bulbs are from +Walmart

These wooden snowflakes are from +HomeGoods . They were actually garland that I converted!

Side Note: I also like to add in decor. Example the whimsical stars. This is a personal preference, but I think adding in bigger pieces adds more to the tree!

5. GREENERY

After adding the ribbon, decor { optional } & ornaments I like to fill the remaining spaces with sprigs of greenery, flowers, berries etc.. This year's tree I used silver poinsettias & some other  green bundled flowers!

6. TOPPER

This is pretty simple, but add your topper!! You can use angels, letters, bouquets, stars & basically whatever you may want! I have used letters & angels in the past...This year I don't have a designated topper!

7. TREE SKIRT

This is my most favorite part honestly! I'm not one for the traditional "skirts" as they can be kind of boring & flat looking!  I like to use wood trays { last year's tree HERE  }, baskets, crocks, crates & more! I actually blogged all about the different ways with direct links HERE !

**This year's tree skirt will be revealed in our 2016 Holiday Home Tour, but I also like to style the bottom of the tree like above!

I hope this was helpful in some way! In all honesty there's no perfect or right way to style a tree. I think they should reflect you & hold memories for years that you can look back on each holiday season! I really hope you guys liked this post! Let me know what you guys do to decorate your tree & what items you love, whether it be style/color/theme etc..

Wishing you all a lovely Monday!
