{ Our Cozy Historical Patriotic Cottage Dining Room Decor }

Happy Friday everyone!! Jumping on here today to share our 4th of July dining room & the cutest pillow ever that inspired all of this!!First I can't believe that 4th of July is right around the corner like literally I can NOT ?! Unfortunately we aren't going up to the cottage this year..which totally has me bummed but I wanted to decorate our little suburban cottage because I LOVE patriotic decor & we have family that serve. Backing up a little bit to a month or so ago when we visited the Chelsea, MI  flea market called Finders Keepers Vintage Market  . While I was there I visited a booth that I fell in love with & spotted a pillow I loved. Fast forward to a few weeks later & Sue from the booth Maxwell-Gray reached out to me & wanted to send me one of her pillows..Umm, YES PLEASE!! She  shipped it out super fast & when I received it I fell in love all over & that's what honestly inspired me to decorate our dining room for the fourth this year, so thanks Sue!! Once I got the pillow I knew what directions I wanted to go in this year..I wanted to keep it authentic + historical style with simple greens & vintage items. I'm not one for the glitzy or "newer" shiny plastic decor, so I dug up chippy old stuff we had from collecting, junkin & marketing. Anyways enough gabbing, come see the full space & the coziest pillow below!

This flag is from Lansing, MI. it was part of some big patriotic dedication years ago. It's huge & I'm so glad I found this while cleaning the basement out before we got everything steam cleaned & washed. I was looking for my cheapy flag I bought last year for out front with no luck & then came across this boxed one. The other  wrapped flag is a vintage find.

I needed something fun & patriotic but still cozy cottage for that corner, so when Sue from Maxwell-Gray reached out & offered to send me one of her amazing pillows it was pure magic! It fits the authentic vintage cottage vibe & pairs well with the chippy green chair.

This is another area I needed something for & just as I was about to skip it, my mom drops off this cute vintage porcelain pot! I love the authentic historical look & chipped porcelain..If I haven't mentioned this before via the blog, I LOVE HISTORY haha..true story..& a story behind it for another day.

This is the softest most simple pillow ever & I mean you guys know I love my ticking stripe...all my loves tied into one & I'm pretty much obsessed with Maxwell-Gray at this point.
*You can follow Sue's page & order your own HERE

I was hesitant about incorporating the terracotta color & planters in with this vintage patriotic decor but it actually brought that cozy summer cottage feel I love so much into the space! You can see our DIY Succulent Ladder HERE

Plants, greenery & patriotic decor..The epitome of an awesome Pure Michigan summer. I can't wait to show you more things we have planed for the summer...The back patio being one of them, unless by some miracle we find our 3rd home soon...please ha!

What do you guys think about our cozy vintage patriotic dining room? I hope you love it as much as we do!! Do you decorate for the holiday, if so how? I love hearing from you guys!

Happy Friday!

{ DIY Thrifty Summer Farmhouse Succulent Ladder Display }

Heyyyyyy pals! I wanted to pop in here today on the blog to share something so cute, but so simple that I was almost hesitant about posting it..but I mean this is my happy place & hopefully yours so I wanted to share something that I did the other day in a little corner in our dining room. As stated for the last few months I've been craving bringing the garden/greenhouse style into our home with cute little plants etc.. I mean I even have a real Lemon Button Fern in our kitchen that's still kicking..I mean WHO AM I haha?! I've had this white vintage ladder from my grams for quite sometime & I love it hanging in this little corner..but it needed something fun for summer that was on the thrifty side & easy to switch out etc.. You see where I'm going with this ha..the creative juices got flowing & I decided to bring more garden charm in & use the ladder to hold some of my faux succulents I've collected & terracotta pots I've picked up at stores, markets, thrifts & so on. This whole project literally cost no more than $15! Come see this charming little space below...

This new handmade wooden bench is another summer fav of mine! I stole it from this spot HERE in our home for this post, but think I may keep it here! The wire basket, bench & large terracotta pots are all thrift finds.. The pillows are from @target & the watering can is from @homegoods.

I've collected these little faux succulents, plain terracotta pots, & rustic ones from all over. None of them were more than $2. Maybe one day I will fill them with real succulents..but I mean lets not get too crazy hahaha..I am working on my #blackthumb ha.

Side Note: You can use any ladder with a decent ledge step. Paint white or leave rustic weathered wood, add the succulents / pots & voila you have a cute summer display! You can find vintage ladders in the trash, markets, shops etc..

I have something to admit to you guys...I literally just plopped these up on the ladder..no particular order, color or anything. I have been super busy & just set them there & started snapping photos..I guess sometimes that's the best way to get that "effortless" cozy look.. I love these cute corners in our home. I've said this before, but I'm on a mission to love this house & make it as cute as possible while going on 3.5 years of searching for a home that fits both mine + Mark's business needs.

I hope you guys liked this quick DIY post. I'm sorry it was a bit short, but I have been so busy with getting our lower level in order, cleaning, getting our patio spruced up, life & EVERYTHING!
Do you like succulents? If you have any tips on how to keep them strong & ALIVE leave them below. I think I over-watered mine before like HERE...eeek poor babies ha.

Happy Tuesday!

{ Simple Linen Closet Tips + Organization! }

Hey pals & happy Friday!! This week seems like it went by so fast & although of course we look forward to the weekend, ours is going to be busy but in the best way possible! We are FINALLY adding a vintage 1920's french style door to our linen closet!!! We've had two of these doors for quite sometime & now since it's warmer we are about to embark on taking the trim off the open linen closet and adding new & then hanging the door...We will be having help as this door is over 300lbs easily. It's going to add so much charm to the hall & when I photograph certain angles from the living room. Anyways before all this takes place & I blog it, I wanted to show you guys what our closet looks like right now because I honestly don't hate it!!! I have some tips below I'm sharing for maximum simple storage & how to keep your closet organized but also stylish too. I mean it's not the funnest area in a home but why not make every space functional & stylish?? My goal has always been to make a space first functional & second stylish haha. Come see our linen closet before she gets an upgrade!!

TIPS + ORGANIZATION:

  • Use totes to keep things separated & look less cluttered.
  • Keep a designated bucket for cleaning products { higher shelf }.
  • Use canisters, mason jars etc.. for storage. { clothes pins, q-tips }.
  • Keep Towels firmly folded next to each other for maximum storage.
  • Keep toiletries in baskets for quick access & count.
  • Use labels or tags. { If you have a lot of totes }
  • Hide an unlit candle for fresh smelling linens/towels.

I know I will get emails about this so I will address it now..The mason jars are stuffed with clothes pins & extra items...The flower stems are just to add cozy style since our closet is more open.

**The gold bucket is vintage & I just spray painted it. The items are all Mrs Meyers cleaning supplies. I have sensitive skin & her stuff is more natural + pretty packaging for display.

I hope this quick post helped you guys! If you have any organizational tips for me PLEASE leave them below. This is one area I always like to keep fresh & updated so any tips are always utilized. Be sure to stay tuned for the new door as well! Do you use any of these tips in your linen closet or home?

HAPPY FRIDAY!

{ Cozy Summer Country Cottage Living Room Refresh }

Today has been the most cozy beautiful sunny summer day & I've been inside all day..which doesn't bug me because I've gotten so much accomplished before the busy weekend of hanging new doors & possibly painting some areas...as you can tell by that last sentence still no perspective new homes. I'm not letting that get me down, instead we're just doing little fun projects around here & enjoying summer! I think I've been in the best mood since Christmas because you guys ..MY DAD IS CANCER F R E E!!! I'm so relieved to know his scans came back CLEAR! I mean if that isn't the best news I don't know what is! Sorry if that doesn't interest you, but I like to share real life on here too. Okay, back to today's post which is filled with everything summertime in our upper living room.. I needed something to brighten this space up even though it's already pretty bight I was sick of the dark jute rug, dark slipcover & just needed a different feel so instead of painting { I'll explain the delay soon } I decided to finally buy a new rug, switch our "winter" slipcover out & add some new { old} thrifty chippy pieces etc.. Keep reading below for more on this simple summer space..

Unlike most of my posts I had a vision for our summer upper living room. I've mentioned before but our lower level is super rustic lodge like, so I keep the upstairs super bright & more branded to my blog. In may my mom dropped of this chippy stool & I knew right where I wanted to put it..right here with dusty lambs ear stems, rustic coasters & keep everything super light, cottagey & mix in some country greens & blues. I'm still on the blue ticking stripe craze, but I wanted more of a summer farmhouse look with LOTS of antiques & vintage pieces mixed in with a touch of whimsical.

Keeping with that summer cottage/ farmhouse look with simple blues, & dusty greens I needed something for this space...I dug up this canvas painting from HomeGoods I purchased a few years back that I forgot about & voila it fit perfect! I added the"welcome" farmhouse pillow I got on vacation in Maine last year & some cottagey teacup flowers.

One of the other semi bigger changes was adding a bright white/cream rug instead of the old dark jute rug. I still like jute but think they look dirty/ dark a lot of the times so I picked this one up at a discount store for $40!!

We also bleached & added the original white slipcover back on & some new stems here & there! I did switch back in forth between bright white candles & the flowers on the couch shelf, but ultimately liked the teacup flowers better. Which do you prefer?

One of the driving factors for this refresh was this vintage chippy green hamper from a market HERE we picked up. I love it & blogged all about it HERE. I love how it coordinates with the table stool & brings in the same green chippy vintage look.

One thing I didn't have time for was to grab some new pillows, I love these but a certain doggy { Stewy } got to the corners on some of them again ahhh. I'm thinkin white & blue ticking stripe or some cream ones..Simple & cozy! The grey flower vase holder & coffee table are both vintage finds.

What do you guys think of this dusty cozy summer cottage living room refresh? Do you love bright spaces during summer or crave anything in particular? I hope you find this cozy space inspirational & enjoy summer to the fullest! It's always a treat for us here in the north, since our summers only last 3 months if lucky.

Happy Thursday, pals!

{ DIY Distressed Vintage Baseball Cap Tutorial! }

Oh Sunday you've been great to us!! We celebrated Father's Day Saturday with my dad because he works on Sunday. We brought him his favorite Chinese  dinner, banana split & lotto tickets hehe. Father's Day was special this year because my dad was battling cancer for most of the year & he's now free & clear- THANK YOU HIGHER POWER! Anyways we've been busy with summer stuff & just life like everyone else & I forgot to blog a little DIY project I did a few weekends back at 10pm  haha..typical Paige right?! As I was grabbing this baseball cap & running out the door today for a little day trip { I can't wait to share why } I remembered I had never shared how to distress/age/vintage-fy/worn whatever you call it. Little fun fact about me, I don't care for things that look super new in most cases. I like the age spots, chippy & rustic look more than something that looks brand new most of the time. I bought this hat at Target a few weeks back while looking for something patriotic & a new hat because let's be honest I live in them with this long crazy & now grey hair haha. Anyways I got it for $3 & thought ehhh for the price I'll do something with it & I did!!! Keep reading below for the SIMPLE tutorial..

1.

 2.

** You can use any brand. This isn't sponsored or anything I just had these on hand that I needed to use before expiration.

 3.

HOW TO:

  • Remove tags.
  • Fill a bowl with warm water.
  • Place 10-20 dark tea bags for soaking/ aging.
  • Flip Cap upside down & submerge.
  • Let soak for at least 12hrs.
  • Wash lightly/separate & wear!
Side Note: For more aging/ worn  look I used a $1 foot scrubber to distress spots. This is optional.

I love how the white stripes are now a more off-white with an uneven tone. The extra distressing gives it that much more character & it's super soft now! The blue & red are now muted & it's more flexible...perfect in my book.

For me the distressing is essential. Just lightly take the pumice or grate side of the foot scrubber & run it back & forth on the edges & seams for that  cozy comfy "worn" in look.

I hope you guys liked this fun little project!!! It saved me tons on the vintage hat I was looking at...I so was not paying $50 for a distressed comfy hat haha. You can pretty much distress anything with the foot scrubber & age items with the darkening of the tea! I also like that it's natural & not messy..win win?, I THINK SO! Have you ever aged anything?

Happy Monday, pals!
