{ Easiest Chalkboard Tutorial EVER! }

I know what you're thinking...another chalkboard tutorial ,right?! Well I promise this tutorial is the easiest one yet!! This tutorial involves no cutting of wood, framing etc..Just a dollar store frame or mirror , chalkboard paint & some $2 chalk &  $1 wire brush!

1.) Pick a cheap frame/mirror { Both of mine are  from Dollar Tree }. Take the decorative insert out & flip the glass over & begin painting! I like to paint mine while it's placed on the back of the frame { secures it in place }. If you're using a mirror just wipe clean & begin painting!!!

**This is a silver lined $1 mirror & I used +Target  line of chalkboard paint in "Devine Coal" & for the Coffee framed chalkboard I used Rust-oleum brand! I like both, however they are a bit different. The Rust-oleum brand is a bit thicker & actually dries quicker, but it leaves grooves..The Target brand is much thinner & darker ,and takes longer to dry, but is much smoother!!
Side Note: If you want more of a rustic looking chalkboard just buy a wood frame & distress etc..Dollar Tree has many!

2.) After the chalkboard is dry , which usually takes 45 minutes depending on how many layers you apply..I usually apply two thick coats! Take a piece of chalk & "season" the board { Rubbing a layer of chalk over it & wiping it off with a damp cloth }. This will ensure the board doesn't leave chalk marks when erasing.

3.) This is the part that some miss to point out..not all chalkboard paints leave completely smooth surfaces..which then leaves grooves in the wood or glass when painted. Simply take a wire brush & buff the chalkboard out. Go with the lines or grain of the chalkboard & just slightly buff until smooth!

4.) Hang or display & enjoy!!

Note: I like the used chalkboard look so I didn't completely wipe off all the chalk before writing on it!

Frame chalkboard using Rust-oleum brand chalkboard paint is above & Target brand below. I did two separate brands to show the differences in products.. I hope this helps!

Mirror chalkboard using Target chalkboard paint.

I just love these little chalkboards. They seriously come in handy for events, announcements, decor , messages etc..& for any budget & level of craftiness!!

Thanks again for dropping by!

{ DIY Summery Fireplace Mantel Box }

Hey everyone!! I hope you guys are having a great end to the week & have some fun stuff planned for the weekend!! Today I'm sharing this nifty little piece { I've been meaning to blog } that my husband found in our neighbors trash one weekend. It's the cutest little two-drawer box!! I knew when he brought it home I was going to keep it the vintage garden green it was painted, but I wanted to distress & take the sheen away from the paint...typical haha! I used some sand paper I had laying around & hand sanded it for a few minutes & distressed the edges back to the original undertone of the wood!!

The neighbor we got this from was a wood worker, so he may have made this..not quite sure, but I love it!! It's unique & fits perfect on our mantel! It started out this vintage glossy green..

I ended up sanding all the gloss away &  distressing the edges to highlight/ outline the box & bring some of the natural wood up! Such a simple project!!!

Side Note: The hardware was so simple & cute I decided to keep it- score!!!

I wanted it to be cottageyy & have almost a potting bench feel! I used some pots I had from Dollar Tree , some free mason jars, greenery, vintage books & an old lantern! I basically I wanted a cute garden-ish mantel with some cute rustic junk ;) !

Those glasses are from our trip to Torch Lake last summer. We were snorkeling & my hubby found them! We kept them as a little lake treasure & I thought they looked perfect in their rustic charm sitting there.

The white lace wall planters are from +IKEA USA  & the greenery is from +Michaels Stores !

It's lined inside with some cute paper, I may change it, but for now it's fine.

I hope you guys enjoyed this simple DIY! I think it adds so much charm in our living room &  gives our little electric fireplace some character!  It's perfect in our little suburban cottage!

Have a great weekend friendsss!!

{ Candle Sconce Turned Flowerpot Holder! }

Hey guys!!!! I'm back..FINALLYYY!  Thanks to Brighthouse, { our lovely internet supplier }  our WiFi has been down for a few days & lets just say I was going nutty not being able to blog some fun new pieces!! I took what little 4th of July decor we had up down. My hubby found this piece about a week ago & at first I thought oh just another candle holder etc.. Then I got to thinking & thought it made a pretty cute little flowerpot holder. I had two terracotta pots from Dollar Tree & stuck them in there for now. I need to pick up one size smaller, but for now they're perfectly imperfect!! You're supposed to obviously hang this piece, but you all know I never go with the what you're "supposed" to do with decor..Keep reading below to see this cute little junkin piece!!

-- BEFORE --

So it may have sat in this spot for a few days..I was stumped where to put it at first then it hit me..right there was perfect & all it needed was a little quick washing & it matched perfect!!

 I actually am using these ones in another project { Coming Soon} so I need to pick two more pots that are a little smaller! I kinda just wanted to get the look & see if I liked them & surprisingly I love the look at first try..weird right?!!

I mean seriously who would put that BIG of a candle in this...not to mention they're hard to find!

I love the placement of this little junkin find, not only because it's cute, but because it sits so beautifully on my papa's old work bench stool! I can remember this stool from wayyy back when his garage was lined with vintage plastic superhero lunch boxes { He used them for screws & nails } ! Well, my gram is moving & my papa has been passed for sometime so when we went to visit her on Memorial Day I snatched this beauty up. It reminded me of their old house & I swear it had layers of painted memories on it. I washed & sprayed painted it a metallic silver & it's perfect!! I'll be blogging this stool & all our new summery pieces & MANY switch-ups in this last month!

Hang with me, I'm a bit behind from summer fun & technical issues! I can't wait to show you all the nifty new treasures & DIY stuff though!! I hope you all are having a great summer thus far!! Talk to you soon guys!!

{ Vintage Inspired 4th of July Table Decor, Change-ups & More..}

Happy Wednesday or 'hump day" , I hate that phrase ha-ha!! I can't believe it's already the middle of the week!! It's been another fall day here in the complaints other than the sun could be out ;) ! A few nights ago via Instagram { } I posted a picture of our updated kitchen decor & well, I didn't stop there.. I ended up moving 12 chairs around { Yes, we have 2 dining spaces , 2 tables & 3 sets of chairs } & believe me it was quite the workout at 2am ha-ha! I wasn't feeling the wood chairs from our lower-level , so I switched them up with our classic & actually my favorite set ,the white parson chairs from +IKEA USA !!  After I switched out the chairs I ended up switching out our curtains from the living-room  to the kitchen. I don't know whyyyyyyyy I waited or didn't think of this sooner, but I'm in love!!! Curtains  are always an issue for me, kinda like rugs  ,so when I finally get it right it feels GREAT!  I moved the cream canvas grommet curtains into the living room & the white/ blue/grey striped ones from the living into the dining space! I hemmed them a bit { pinned them back, because we all know I don't sew.. ;) } & they look perfect! The ease of the grommets in the living room with the bamboo shades are so much better & the striped curtains now in the dining look perfect & add texture!!  So needless to say I've been busy switching up / cleaning up some spaces for a fresh summer look!!

 I forgot I had these cute tea towels from my grams. They look perfect with the 4th decor, yet are still neutral enough for this space & p.s who doesn't love some fresh cherries?!

As mentioned above I wasn't feeling the chairs, curtains, or decor I first blogged a while I switched it it up!! I forgot I also had this vintage +Pillsburydough container, & when I came across it while rummaging in our stock pile, I had to use it!! I kept the original flowers & just added this container & the Amish check bowl.

I added some patriotic colored tea towels to the ladder & took away the flowers, for now!

Side Note: Everything used on the table with the exception of the jute Better Homes and Gardens place mats & the tablecloth, everything is either free finds or thrifts!

This was hard to photograph, but I wanted to give a full picture.  I know it's a bit dark & the table will be moved over. The base of the table looks perfect with the new curtains, chairs & decor. It's hard to see, but it's chalk painted blue & grey { custom mixed color} & lightly distressed with brown undertones.

Thanks for stopping by & have a great rest of the week!!

{ DIY Weathered Wood Angel Sign ! }

I'm sure everyone has those days where everything either irritates you or makes you  sad right?! Ya, well yesterday was one of those days!! I rarely ever watch the news { Its been over a year } & the one time I do, well my husband actually was ..I see all kinds of sick & demented/irritating things happening in this CRAZED world!! I should warn you this post is going to come off "ranty" ,but it's REAL!! I swear people are becoming more desperate, crazed & society as a whole is losing its balance!!! I seriously wish I could elaborate on this, but I'll keep it PG on TQS haha! Ahhhhh, see one of those days!! So when these days come about I run out to the garage & pick up some junk & park myself in the office & create or try..! I decided our little suburban cottage needed some angel wings , so I painted a little weathered angel with a quote I came up with!! I really had no plans on creating this, but once I started I actually loved it! It's definitely not perfect , but it's cute & inspirational. I'm a firm believe in angels, so this is perfect for our little home!  I'm thankful everyday for this life, but also feel sad that others are suffering, including animals. I see people complaining about the most petty things, when people , children, babies, & animals are enduring horrific conditions & sickness everyday! We're not perfect, but we live a simple life mostly and with much gratitude & I wouldn't have it any other way ! We were both taught at a very young age about charity, special needs and so on { Thanks parents ;) }!  I could preach until I'm blue, & people still wouldn't choose to donate over buying something useless etc.. Sometimes it's not about being "cool"  ,but more loving & real!!!!! Anyway.. if you're still with me{ haha} check out this cute little uplifting DIY I made!

- Let The Angels Figure It Out -

I'm not a religious person, but I do believe in a higher power! I came up with this because I need to learn to let things work out. I'm a worrier & perfectionist at times & that can suck the life out of you!

I thought this sign looked perfect in this spot. The picture to the right is me with black, yes, black hair & my husband. The picture to the left is of Mark's parents. His mom is a real angel in heaven so what better place then to set this little sign above her!

I used an old black piece of wood off our fireplace makeover & had it sitting {hoarded} in our garage. It was perfect because it gave that dark weathered undertone with the cream & white chalk paint over it. We won't talk about how many mixed , sanded & distressed layers are on this piece haha!  The angel was painted black over the 3rd coat of paint over the original black board. I then watered down some cream chalk paint & went over the angel & then lightly distressed one last time. It sounds like more work then it was & it's really kinda foolproof....Just go with it :) !

Like I said above, it's farrrr from perfect, but it's whimsical & holds meaning to me.

The greenery is from +Michaels Stores  on clearance for $4 a branch! The frog vase { I took the top off } was purchased at +Marshalls on clearance for $7!!

Just messing around with some different pieces..I do like the lantern too!  Everything but the hutch & mirror were all free finds thanks to my lovely picker of a husband!

I hope I didn't rant tooooo much in this post, but honestly it feels good!! I'm one of those people who will hold something in until I explode & I'm working on that!!  I'm reminded of the quote " Those Who Stand For Nothing, Will Fall For Anything". I pride myself on having strong  views & opinions. I've never been one to follow the crowd & today I'm not afraid to say it! Everyone goes through hard things in life, but it's how you flourish from them & rise above the stagnate , generic , or hurtful people! Remember ..- Let The Angels Figure It Out -.

Thanks for listening to my rant & I hope you love this piece as much as I do!!

Happy & healthy weekend everyone!

{ DIY Simple & Thrifty Lemonade Cart! }

You guysssssss today was the cutest & most relaxing summer day with my sister & niece ! It finally was gorgeous today, which is a miracle in itself here in the north!! We had quite the day adventuring out to Maybury Farm , Picnicking in a park  & we even had a very successful { $6 }  lemonade cart hehe! I know so many other people have blogged cute little lemonade stands, but honestly they aren't so practical..they're adorable,but who has time to build a stand, make huge signs & buy  supplies..Ya, me either!! This little lemonade cart literally took us 20 minutes & it's all from junk & supplies we had laying around the house & garage!!

Here are some the things we used to pull this together..

- Cart
- Fresh or store bought lemonade mix. We used a combined mix!
- Napkins { What  I had laying around }
- Drink dispenser or just a pitcher
- Chair {  I used an old rustic paint splattered one }
- Cups { I used red plastic ones we had from last weekend }
- Towel
Cute paper straws { I had some leftover from the holidays}
- Cookies { I filled a used lemon wafer container }
- Lemons for decoration.
-Crock & plant I had sitting on our front porch { Just for decoration }
- Instead of a huge  wood or store bought sign we used a chalkboard I DIY'd & had sitting in the kitchen!

Her most favorite person of all { Her uncle Markie} might have chugged a few cups too ;)!

See I LITERALLY just pulled stuff together for this little Lemonade Cart! Simple home fun for the kiddies all on the cheap { Many of these goods can be purchased at Dollar Tree} !

I was going to use this trash picked metal rolling cart for a DIY ,but never did & the paint I used was perfect for the lemonade stand!

She is the cutest & smartest 8 year old!! Believe it or not she was "staging" like her aunt haha! She was setting the faux lemons out & arranging her straws LOL!! She also wrote on the chalkboard sign & added the cute little hearts { She has some nice writing for an 8 year old, right?!} !!

Our neighbors were such good sports too! We truly are thankful ! I mean how could you say no to this little princessa, Kayla!? I hope you have a great rest of the week & get to enjoy some yummy ice cold lemonade while enjoying your kiddies!
