{ Our Pure Michigan Vacation Scenery / Guide! }

Happy Thursday everyone! Today I'm sharing some of our shots from this past holiday weekend & a little scenic tour guide to some fabulous spots here in Northern Michigan!! I'm sorry I don't have any home decor related posts up this week as we have about 3 different projects going on & it's been busy around here eeek! I should have the blog filled for next week though so no worries! Today is all about our great state of Michigan & some gorgeous pictures I snapped from the weekend! I'll be honest Northern Michigan is one of the most soothing spots to travel, but I can't picture myself living there all year long! I'll be doing little briefs below if you're interested in visiting some of Northern Michigan in the future etc..

C R Y S T A L  L A K E

Crystal Lake is one of those hidden gems that once you take a peek you're hooked! We stumbled upon this little spot while driving around Frankfort & we're so glad we did! I would compare it to Torch Lake { located 1.5 hours North } , but even better than Torch Lake actually! I know that's a big statement considering Torch Lake is voted #3 in the world by National Geographic. The water literally was like the ocean..Pure sand, little to no fish, no seaweed & really refreshing { about 68-71 degrees }! We loved that it was a swimming beach & you could wade out a long distance & still see the crystal clear water even up to around 20ft!!

I wish I could have gotten a picture while out on the sunning deck! The view was absolutely breathtaking!!!! The lake overlooks the pure Michigan mountains & gorgeous craftsman cottages. P.S My husband & I may have swam all the way out & jumped into 20ft water off of the sun deck..very exhilarating for me haha ;)!

Lake Michigan is almost a given in our state! We visited Lake Michigan 2 years back while we were staying on Torch Lake at a B &B, and were kind of disappointed! This year we visited a few locations & the water was absolutely stunning! I would recommend Frankfort beaches for the best view & more of a quaint feeling if you want to avoid the mass crowds, but still enjoy the beaches, blue waters & mountain/dune views!

B E T S I E  L I G H T H O U S E

Out of all the pictures I've ever taken the Betsie Lighthouse has to be my most favorite scenic pictures! Seriously I was just randomly shooting while my husband & sister were exploring higher grounds { I'm afraid of heights } & when I got back to our cottage to go through the pictures from that day I literally thought it was something I screenshot & forgot about.. It's the most quaint beach & lighthouse with a cute little sandy beach opening leading to the beautiful Lake Michigan. This lighthouse beach isn't for swimming as it's super choppy, deep & rocky, but literally out of a magazine in every other way.

Frankfort was about 15 miles from our little place in Mesick & it's adorable! It's a little beach town that offers sandy beaches overlooking dunes & mountains, cute shopping, coast guard, art gallery on the water, piers & the cutest homes!!! This may be my new favorite place in northern Michigan!

I really hope you guys liked this little mini guide to some awesome spots in northern Michigan! So many fun & quaint spots to explore & take in! Go visit some of these scenic locations, I promise you'll love them! Until next time northern Michigan.. :)!

Side Note: These last few pictures were of some tree farms down the street in Mesick from our place. I'm sure you all know by now that I'm Christmas Tree obsessed, so of course I had to get some pictures as the sun was going down!

It just wouldn't be a downright country adventure without the good ole +Jeep  AKA "White Wonder" hehe !

{ Masculine Office / Den Inspiration Board }

Hey sweet friends!! I hope you all had a lovely longgg holiday weekend! Mark, my sister & I + the dogs were all in northern Michigan for the whole weekend & I pretty much fell in love with our state all over again! We enjoyed our { My grandparents} little place in Mesick & traveled to Frankfort,Traverse City, Kalkaska, Fife Lake & so on!! We explored some gorgeous lighthouses on Lake Michigan/ Crystal Lake & reminisced about old times..I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss home, but seriously northern Michigan is so gorgeous to visit! Today I just finished some things around the house & worked a little on some projects that we have going on. One of the projects that we have in limbo right now is converting the dogs' room into my husband's office/ den area! We blogged his little office nook a few months ago { Search top of blog }, but since then his new business branch out has grown already & well, he needed MORE space!! I wanted to give you guys a sneak peek at some inspiration for this space until I blog the full reveal! The walls will be tan, but as for everything else it's kind of up in the air for now..Stay tuned!

A lot of these items we already have, so we'll be using what we have, but some of the goods like the desk, oversized leather chair, pillows etc.. We will be adding/buying etc..  He wants something functional, warm & masculine. Immediately farmhouse style came to mind because it evokes just about everything he wants!

Side Note: These items are just for inspiration mostly & can be purchased more budget friendly from other various places.

What do you guys think of this den / office design inspiration so far?? Wishing you all a happy Wednesday!

As always THANK YOU for stopping in on my little growing blog. I know everyone says it, but I honestly appreciate each of you for sharing my posts, commenting etc....I'm not the biggest or most popular blogger, but I am humble, real & practical and  hopefully helpful or inspiring in someway :).

Hey friends! Thanks for popping back in on the blog!! So, I wanted to share a project I completed over the weekend for 4th of July, but that will be coming tomorrow on the blog..more on that little story later haha! Today I'm sharing some simple farmhouse style 4th decor for any home! You guys already know I'm not one to decorate for smaller holidays like the 4th, but surprisingly this year I'm kind of into it & super excited for the holiday weekend ;)!! With that being said..splashing our house with plastic red, white & blue decor still isn't my cup of tea, so I put together this little simple collage of goods while online shopping tonight! They're simple, festive, summery & can be used all throughout the summer & bonus of course they're practical!!!!! Sit back with some lemonade or an ice cold beverage & browse these simple items to decorate with, & also be sure to check back tomorrow for that DIY, & an update on a project in the works as I type!!

 1. Pillows- Easy to accent any space!

2. Throws- Comfy, practical & add that inviting feel.

3. Vintage signs- Fun & festive for summer & add that farmhouse/cottage appeal!

4. Mason Jar glasses- Simple, durable, farmhouse & thrifty!!

5. Tea towels- Practical & versatile!

6. Flowers- Add warmth, color & rustic appeal!

All these items can purchased just about ANYWHERE, so before I get e-mails about being expensive etc.. I promise these items can be found just about anywhere & on the cheap!!! I just wanted to give some basic ideas to add some cozy festive charm without the cheesy plastic 4th decor { no offense to those who love those goods} !! I can't wait to share some more 4th DIY tomorrow..See this week's theme here on TQS hehe :)! Anyways happy & healthy Monday friends!!

{ Summer Decor Ideas with Tips / Tricks & MORE !! }

Happy official 1st day of summer sweet friends!!! I hope you all had a lovely weekend doing something you love or helping someone or something. With everything that's been going on in the world I've been trying to just do things I love & be around people who mean the most to me. With that being said, I know many of you have been experiencing summer for awhile, but us Michiganders have only been having "real" summer weather since about two weeks ago! With today being the first day of summer 2016, I thought I would share some simple summer decor inspiration with items ANY home can utilize! I also wanted to give a sneak into some areas in our home where I used some of these items/tips! Sit back with an ice cold coca-cola or sweet tea & join me for some quick, simple & fun summer decor!!!
Furniture
1. Lighten up your furniture! If you have dark leather add some light throws or decorative pillows! If you have a slip-covered couch or sofa lighten the print/fabric up!

Greenery
2. Adding any sorts of greenery will help spruce & brighten up any space! I like to use a mixture of plants, flowers & other types of greenery all throughout our home! Real or faux works. I tend to use more faux from +IKEA USA  , +Hobby Lobby  or +Michaels Stores only because my green thumb isn't so green ha..yet!!!!

Candles
3. I always seem to change up our candles throughout our home to lighter & more fruity scents once the warm weather hits! I mean anything floral, fruity, or natural scented I love during the warmer months especially on a cool summer night!

Pillows
4. Pillows are that item that you can switch out with any season or holiday for cheap usually & simply! I like to add more neutral toned pillows or patriotic style during the summer months! I also tend to go with lighter {fabrics} & smaller style during the summer! Cozy on the sofa with some soft throw pillows on a summer evening..Yes Please!!!

Patriotic
5. I'll be the first to say I keep 4th of July decor to the minimal, but I also love adding rustic/vintage patriotic stuff all around the house for the whole summer!  It adds that summer cozy charm & reminds you of those long warm summer nights with loved ones!

Basic Decor
6. Signs or lettering etc. are one of those decor items that can help bring in different seasons, holidays or even styles & summer is no exception! I'm pretty much obsessed with the "garden" one above. They're easy to DIY & bonus you can find signs like this just about anywhere. +HomeGoods  is one of my favorite chain places for them!
Adding decor like lanterns that can be used in just about any season or occasion are another way to bring in some summer decor. Using lanterns inside or out will work for any summery space. I decided to put the pair of birdcages in place of lanterns just because these decorative cages reminded me of summer..Don't ask me why, but they did haha!

-->I've put some simple, neutral, rustic, cottage & farmhouse style summer decor together below with sources! Keep reading for some more summer spaces & ideas in our little suburban cottage!

**More ideas for summer below! Click the links for more inspiration throughout our home.

Flower boxes are that summer item for the outside that scream summer is here! We added these semi DIY ones here:Simple Summer Flower Boxes

I decided to decorate our front porch with some vintage patriotic goods for summer & 4th of July here:Our 2016 4th of July Porch!

I hope you guys have gathered tons of inspiration from this post! I wanted to incorporate some straight inspiration from a board & summery inspiration from our actual home so you guys can see & use the ideas hopefully in your own home!!! I'm wishing you all a lovely 1st day of summer & of course Monday too!

{ Our 4th of July porch decor using all free junkin finds! }

Welcome back lovely friends!! I hope you all are having a great summer week doing what you love! Sorry about my blogging schedule being a bit off this week..I've been really tired, yet in great spirits & loving this gorgeous Michigan weather!! We've been working on a few projects, gearing up for the 4th{ more on that later} of July & just enjoying the parks & summer activities! I wanted to pop on here today & share our 4th of July porch since I don't think I've everrrr in my blogging career have decorated our little suburban cottage porch for 4th of July!!!! I mentioned in Monday's post -->Summery Cottage/Farmhouse Kitchen Inspiration that my sister & I spent all day Sunday working in the yard, tanning & decorating, and well this is what we were working on!! Almost everything in this blog post are free junkin finds with the exception of the succulent gift from my sister & some greenery/ a $5 jute rug!

I had these pots & crocks stashed in our pile in the garage & of course they were perfect for the outside area! I have used these on our 4th mantel display I think before too. They were all free finds people tossed.. The mini tan crock is vintage!

I'm going to fill you guys in on something that is a bit embarrassing..So when I started decorating this area I was searching in our garage stock pile haha & I found the first bell..then the second & finally 3rd!!! I didn't even know we had these...Truth be told though, I kind of love that I can "shop" our garage & you guys know I love old collections like this!!

Okay, onto the main focal point of this display..This hugeee - Vote Here - sign!! We've had this in the garage for literally 3 years & I always forget to use it !! This year I was determined & loveeee it! It's got so much charm & chippy-iness in the wood hence why I'm obsessed!

The birdhouse one of us kids made when we were younger.. { we were always into crafts ha }

I really hope you guys enjoyed this festive & patriotic porch with some unusual treasures! I know we don't have a flag out, but honestly I wanted to do something a bit different..Stay tuned for some more 4th decor too ;)!

{ Bright Summery Cottage & Farmhouse Kitchen Decor Ideas }

Happy Monday guys!! I hope you all are having a wonderful start to the summer & had a lovely weekend!! Ours was filled with lots of sunshine, yard work, laughs & well no power for a few hours haha! Saturday I spent the day outside getting some stuff done, washing the jeep & just enjoying the 90 degree weather since Mr. Markie had to work! We also lost power Saturday night & of course made the best of it with the beautiful weather, Slurpees', junk food & lots of candles & sister time! Sunday my sister came over again & helped me with the yard, relaxed & enjoyed our Sunday all around! I've been updating our kitchen area with more summery goods & colors lately & thought I'd share some of my inspiration along with the sources. I've noticed that in the fall & winter months I tend to gear towards more greens & browns, but when summer hits I use more black mixed with crisp whites , greens & yellows..Yes, I do use color here & there in our home hahah! Come gather some inspiration to make your kitchen & dining more cozy & bright this summer!

This is one of my most favorite summer kitchen collages! It's super simple with staple items, but also festive & bright! I think I may have to order that black rug & those plates..

I hope you all have a lovely Monday & if you could say a prayer for the victims of yesterday's tragedy that would be great.

{ Layered Summery Fireplace Mantel }

Heyyyy you guys!! I hope the week has been good to you all so far. I've been getting a bunch of stuff done around our house these last few days..I've been switching out some of the stagnant decor in each room & kind of shuffling stuff & actually loving the fresh changes for summer! My favorite switch up is coming soon on the blog, but today I thought I would share a super simple summer inspired mantel decor with  thrifty treasures & cottage accents!

I wanted something a bit more substantial, but also just really simple & fresh decor wise ..if that makes any sense! I used an old white distressed mantel I had & layered on top the vintage fireplace box!

All the greenery is from +IKEA USA  with the exception of the +Michaels Stores  terracotta filled pots! The lanterns & wood wick candles are both from Dollar Tree & the white candlesticks were free finds!

I love the look of the vintage books, greenery & mantel! It's simple, bold & hides wires etc..

I love the old vintage doors next to the TV! They had something to that huge wall & they're cottagey!  The crocks & books were all free finds too & I switched out that sign from the bathroom & love it here now!

I hope you guys enjoyed this super short & simple posts! Fireplaces with TV combos can be hard to decorate! This one was super simple to achieve with some book, plants & thrifty finds!

Happy Wednesday!
