{ Industrial, Utility, Modern & Rustic 3 Step DIY Light Fixtures from MICHAELS!!

Hey everyone & happy Tuesday!! I'm currently sitting here at 5am typing with a huge bandaged thumb after I literally took 3 layers of skin off of it with a razor that fell, a tooth that was chipped from chewing gum & if anyone knows me personally reading this you know how freaky I am about my teeth.. Oh & my husband blew a fuse while plugging his dang diesel in haha..Fun night right? Happy 2017 to me?.. Ahhh, but because I loveeeee my job so much & I needed something to get my mind off of things I thought I'd blog the coolest thing I've spotted in a chain store in a longggg time!! Now, I know some of you might say this isn't that "new" but it's new to me & our +Michaels Stores  location, so I'm sharing today!!! Be aware there are no "pretty" pictures, but more of an informative post for you all...& seriously I'm pretty obsessed with this new line they have put out! It's simple, affordable & super trendy for just about any style!

So I was out last Saturday night tooling around with my sister & we happened to pop into Michaels which I haven't shopped in a while..Just as we were heading out I noticed they updated & reconfigured their store so I had to walk down the front isles..Well, as soon as I spotted this new 3 Step DIY Light Fixture collection I grabbed my camera out & had to blog it for you guys!!! When I say this collection is literally an easy 3 step process..it TRULY is!! I love how cute the set was, simple & informative, and affordable/ versatile!!

H o w  T o:

  • Choose your Bulb
  • Choose Cord Color/ Style
  • Pick your Style Light { 4 styles with different sizes to choose from }

The assortment of lights are awesome!! They range from utility/farmhouse style to vintage mason jar styles etc.. !

The cords are super easy peasy & come in either black or white! I believe they are under $15 too with a 15ft cord!

Okay...true story the vintage inspired light bulbs are my most FAVORITE part about this new line!! I love them & the different styles they offer!

**So what do you guys think about this new DIY Light line from +Michaels Stores ? Have you used this line yet or plan to? I think a new dining light is in our near future haha! I hope you guys liked this different kind of post...It's nothing too pretty, but so inspiring & hopefully informative!!

Happy Tuesday!!

{ Cottage Style Simple & Cozy Winter Decor Sneak Peek, Ideas & Announcement..}

Welcome back to TQS, I sincerely hope you all are having a lovely start into the New Year!  Talking about the New Year etc.. like I said in a previous post isn't really my thing, so today I'm sharing what I've been up to in our little cozy suburban cottage as far as winter decor goes!! I'm going to be sharing each room individually soon & then blogging my first full - WINTER HOME TOUR - after, but today I wanted to check in with you guys & throw out some simple ideas since this is the week that most are pitching the Christmas & getting back to regular seasonal decor! I always seem to go with extra cozy & warm decor after Christmas to kind of warm the house up & fill in the bare spots Christmas decor left! Adding extra fresh pine greenery all over is definitely one of my favorites! Come take a little sneak peek at some spaces I decorated for this winter season below!

I just added a smaller more wintery wreath to our barn door divider & added some new chalkboard writing..Stay tuned for another little DIY that might be added to this door! The wreath is from +Michaels Stores  a few years back on clearance! I added the little white ribbon bow!

I just love this little DIY hutch of ours! It's one of my most favorite pieces to decorate with because it's so simple & styles perfectly! I honestly didn't do much but add some thrift store rustic pines my sister picked up, added some glassware & of course a few vintage goods! I'll be showing the full hutch soon!

This is probably my most favorite space to show you guys! It's our lower level aka family room & it came together so nicely after Christmas! It's simple, super rustic & cozy, and YESSSS I left our big tree up bare with just white lights on! Truth be told I actually love the tree not lit even more down in this space! The simple rustic semi flocked look makes the space super wintery & cozy next to the little fireplace!

I kept the antique plate wall because I love the wording on the sign { close up soon } for the New Year & the plates are passed down from my gram & the gold trim looks so wintery!! I added the tan & dark blue check runner & just some old crocks for now...

I'll be showcasing this super neutral upstairs living room fireplace on the tour as well! You can see more inspiration for winter here HERE

What do you guys think about these wintery touches I've added so far?
Be sure to check back in for each room individually blogged & then our 2017 Winter Home Tour!

Happy FRIDAY!!!

As always THANK YOU for stopping in on my little growing blog. { Farmhouse Style Goods for Every Room of your Home + Ideas }

Hey guys! Today was the day that sadly most of our Christmas decor went away..which was sad because my Christmas crazy self loves everything cozy & cheerful Christmas brings! I did however manage to keep one of our largest trees up in our lower level, because it's super rustic & I just left it bare..I mean pine trees for winter decor check checkkk hahaha! Anyways so as I was putting all the cheery & cozy Christmas decor & pulling out some items I noticed a trend.. Not only was I basically redecorating for Christmas with winter goods , but I also was pulling out all farmhouse & cottage style items{ or treasures as I like to call them} to warm our little suburban cottage back up! I always go for cozy style items, so I thought I'd blog some of my favorites! I put together a bunch of goods that can be used in almost  every room of the house! These items are for the most part neutral & can be found at all your local chains like +HomeGoods  , +Marshalls , & +Michaels Stores !!

I love that "grocery" sign! I actually just helped a friend out with her home & we purchased one of these for her kitchen/dining space! This is where I got the inspiration for this post...Not everyone knows where to purchase these goods or how to cozy up their home in farmhouse or cottage decor so why not blog how/where?!

I hope this list of things was helpful for your farmhouse & cottage style decor! I know people still get a bit confused on where to get these goods, because lets face it this is still a semi newer trend etc.. What do you guys think about these style goods? Do you use any of these items in your home? Where do you get them? Let me know in the comments below!

Wishing you all a lovely Wednesday!

{ Easing into Winter with some Simple Tips & Decor Items }

Happy 2017 everyone!!! I'm so excited to dive into this fresh new year with some new personal goals, career goals & just life in general! I didn't want to come on here today & just talk about the new year & resolutions because let's face it everyone does that right after the 1st & it actually drags me down a bit! I wanted to do something a little different { typical on TQS } & talk about something a lot of people struggle with including myself- DECORATING AFTER CHRISTMAS!! It's that weird transition that you just can't totally go one way or another..Too cold/ bare to start decorating for spring { at least here in MI } & everyone is basically over Christmas decor..So what to decorate with? Today I'm sharing some pictures from our own home decorated for "winter" using a mix of leftover Christmas goods, junkin finds, wood, wreaths & good ole' pine trees!!!

P i n e  T r e e s / P i n e C o n e s

This is probably my favorite thing to use to decorate for winter with!!! I'm a lover of greenery & pine trees so I always pop a few up in the house after Christmas!! I usually don't even need to dig them out because I'll just use the ones I had out for Christmas & take the bulbs/decorations off! I love the simple rustic look of a pine tree & it's perfect for wintery decor. You can find the mini rustic pine trees from your local +Michaels Stores  or +Hobby Lobby  for usually under $10!!

P.S. the bulbs are a bit too holiday for me so I'll be removing those, but everything else will stay or be tweaked just a bit. Love now having to worry about putting tons of Christmas way this year..and that's coming from the 'Christmas Crazy" me haha!

N e u t r a l / N a t u r a l  D e c o r

This piece is the perfect example of styling something so simple, naturally & well thrifty too! It screams Christmas & with only a few thrifty items! I just added some old wood window frames stacked, +IKEA USA  greenery/ $1 wreath & a +HomeGoods  picture! The table legs, crock  & tree were all free or thrifty finds! The $5 tree will stay a up a bit longer just bare, because it's wintery! I'm actually not dreading putting Christmas away this year because I went more wintery than anything! Most of our upper level can stay up well into January..score right?!

 **See this cabinet makeover HERE

L a n t e r n s

I love using lanterns in the summer & winter both honestly! They're so versatile & they help add that cozy rustic farmhouse/cottage look while being useful too! I just popped these little ones on this mantel behind our slipcover sectional & I love how they look. These are just little LED ones I got for $2 each from Family Dollar.  I have a huge chandelier lantern in our upper living room as well that coordinates.

You can see from these two pictures & the others that I move & shuffle goods so much in our home. All these items doubled as winter + Christmas ,and using them in different spots just added more looks!

D i s t r e s s e d  W o o d

 Distressed wood items decorated with simple greenery are pretty much a staple in the winter at our little suburban cottage! The old rustic chipped wood creates that cozy cottage charming look while the simple natural greenery looks so natural & effortless paired with it!  Most of our chippy wood pieces were junkin finds, but you can also paint & chip/distress wood super easily as well with a wire brush & some dark wax!

R u s t y / V i n t a g e   G o o d s

Another one of my favorite things to add around our home or leave out depending on that year's Christmas decor..VINTAGE GOODIES! I love using items like skis, rusty skates, old buckets & crocks to display or mix in with the greenery or wood to add cozy warmth!

The vintage skates, metal toolbox, rusty candlestick holder & skis were all free junkin finds!

-These skis were a free find & I use them almost every winter..I love the rusted hardware & the wood aspect..The lit garland will be taken down soon or I'll just leave some greenery, but without the lights on etc..!

T h i c k   P i l l o w s

This is a given, but pillows make so much of a difference through each season & holiday! I love adding thick cozy pillows to our sofas to add a ton of texture & warmth/coziness! I had these pillows out for Christmas this year & just took out the"holiday" themed ones out after Christmas! I did recently switch out this sectionals pillows for all grey & white, but they're all still very winter without being Christmasyyy!

What do you guys think about our Christmas decor doubled as simple winter decor too?? Do you decorate for winter? What do you love to use?

Wishing you all a lovely Monday & fresh NEW YEAR!

{ Cottage Style Winter Decor for After Christmas }

Hey friends, welcome back to the blog!!! I hope you all had an amazing cozy & festive Christmas!! I can't believe it's already over..That after Christmas feeling is already setting in ugh, so I decided to take Monday off to relax & then come back on here today & share some winter decor ideas!! I don't know about you guys but after Christmas I get super down & kind of feel stuck almost..It's a weird transition from everything cozy & cheery to just blahhh..because it's too early for spring stuff { at least here in Michigan} because there's usually tons of snow left etc...The last two years I've come to actually "decorate for winter" after Christmas so it helps me transition into spring & everything fresh & even some new things for the upcoming spring & summer season ahead! This weird after Christmas time also has me always wanting to freshen things up around the house & DIY EVERYTHING in our little suburban cottage! So today I put together some items that will get you through that weird stage after Christmas with some simple & cozy items!!

I'm obsessed with all of these items because they all scream cozy winter wonderland to me! I decided to add/keep some simple pine trees because I'm in love with these little ones & because they're also wintery! The throw, baskets for wood, blankets or storage etc.. & of course some yummy candles for those cold days! I'll be ordering that doormat soon, so stay tuned for our winter porch coming soon too!

I have a white faux fur rug like that, so now I think I need that cute flower reindeer art...Always shopping I tell ya haha! & I swear I can smell that chai tea candle through the screen!!! Can you just picture a huge wool throw like above, that candle going & a cup of creamy hot chocolate? Perfection right?!

What do you guys think about these items? Do you decorate for winter after Christmas? It's always nice to start fresh & with these items it's made easy! Let me know what you think below!!

Wishing you all a lovely Tuesday!

{ 5 Simple Ways to Enjoy the Holiday Season! }

Happy Monday everyone!!! It's a snowy, cold & sunny holiday Monday here in the north! Yesterday we finally took some time to enjoy a few Christmas festivities together & oh my was it good for our hearts!! We started off by having some delicious Chinese in downtown Frankenmuth { a true Christmas Story, right?! } haha & then took a lovely & brisk winter walk up & down the streets of Frankenmuth looking in the little shops, admiring the decor, fresh fire scent & of course some yummy treats!! We've been super busy this whole entire year with our businesses & just life in general..With that being said, we all know the holidays can bring out the worst in some because it puts pressure on unrealistic expectations..Believe me I know first hand being a Home Blogger! This is another reason why I always try & stay as practical/ thrifty as possible on TQS for you guys. Today I wanted to come on here & give some quick tips for an easy & ENJOYABLE holiday season with minimal stress while incorporating some fun activities!

1. Enjoy Dinner Out!

This is one of those things for us that we hardly ever do because our schedules are so crazy & I actually don't mind cooking! Again, it's always nice to get out for a nice cozy Christmas dinner & not having to worry about anything for one night! It's fun to just sit & chat with each other & some good food in a different atmosphere! I chose Cracker Barrel just because it was super cozy, inexpensive & Umm look at how cozy that fireplace is!!!

2. Take a Brisk Walk!

This is one of those things I love doing around the holiday season..Taking a bundled up chilly walk..there's just nothing like a brisk winter walk with the fire scent, lights & crunchy snow! It's free, invigorating & cozy! Yesterday we probably walked two miles just enjoying the Christmas decor & hustle & bustle the season entails!

3. Visit Shops!

I know what you're thinking..MORE shopping? Haha before you think I'm crazy, I mean just stroll in and look at some cute little town shops, small businesses & gather inspiration or shop..Something about small shops that are that much cozier around the holidays, not to mention they have some one of a kind goodies! We stopped in quite a few yesterday just browsing!  The decorations were gorgeous & we had fun just looking!

4. Enjoy Holiday Decor!

This is at the top of my list when it comes to Christmas festivities! I'm super simple & enjoy just soaking in all the magical & whimsical decor! Taking a drive to look at lights, enjoying your home decor, shopping for it or enjoying others' decor! Frankenmuth obviously has some of the best, not to mention how quaint & cozy the town is!!

5. Take Pictures/ Document!

This is another super simple activity! Taking pictures of decor, scenery, each other & documenting that year! We've been doing this since day one of our relationship { scrapbooking etc..} not only for Christmas,but just in life itself! It's fun to be able to look back & see what has changed, grown or just stayed the same! Yesterday we got some pretty shots of the river in Frankenmuth & just soaked in the gorgeous winter scenery!!

What do you guys think about these tips? What are your favorite things to do around the holidays & how do you keep stress down? I really hope these quick & simple tips gave you some ideas & you enjoy the rest of this years holiday festivities etc.. :)

Wishing you all a lovely Monday!
