{ Why the small things matter..a different type of post }

**This post is quite off the beaten path from my usual post..keep reading ;)

This past Saturday was enchanting & delightful all in one! We had our niece for the night & decided to head out for a drive in the country to  the Cider Mill. Not only was the weather perfect  ,but the time we spent with her { Miss Kayla } was unforgettable ! We got to enjoy some special time with her & she got to enjoy the Cider Mill festivities ! As many of you know I'm a Fall & Christmas festivities junky & as soon as September 1st hits all the excitement starts brewing! This year has been a roller coaster with many ups & downs, but just taking that one day of simple joys { our niece & each other } helps ease almost anything! I'm not sure if it was the cool weather, fall sunshine, or the copious amounts of apple cider & donuts , but it was a glorious Saturday. On the way home the sun was dimming ,the country music was blaring,sunroof open & the breeze was blowing from  the highway! It was surreal like in a movie when someone is listening to music with headphones & you can't hear the music,but you see the persons gestures & movements..ya that was us three! As we were heading home & all this was taking place I happened to glance in my mirror & see my niece in total enchantment sitting in her booster { big girl seat } staring out of the  window completely in her own innocent world smiling & singing with the sun beaming down on her freckly button nose! I looked over at my husband & he knows me so well  says ,"Now don't cry honey"-thank gosh I was wearing sunglasses ;) ! Those are the kind moments that matter the most in life . I needed that after such an up & down kind of year...When we got home we enjoyed some time in the yard playing & watching the sun go down....yes-PERFECT! The point of this post is stop & relax ,& enjoy the small things in life. I know everyone is busy wanting,needing,or wishing, & yes, I'm guilty of this too,but try to enjoy the simple pleasures, they don't come often in our world these days...which scares me!
As always have a great weekend guys!

{ My small bathroom revamp using chalk paint }

Hey, you guys! Hope you're having a great week thus far ! The weather has been unbelievable for Michigan, high 65 & sunny,I'll take that ANY DAY ! Although the weathers been perfect , I did want to complete this little project that I've been wanting to do for oh...lets say 6 months now! I've been wanting to paint my bathroom vanity & storage cabinet with some Annie Sloan Old Ochre chalk paint, & finally I did!

Just a builder grade wood cabinet..

I still don't 'like' the granite color variations,but for now it will do :)!

I decided to paint that white storage cabinet too! FYI- Painting this little cabinet was a  nightmare! It was cheap from Target almost three years ago { I just wanted a white cabinet } & I'm not sure what was on it,but the chalk paint would not stick & yes, I cleaned it before hand! I believe the laminate/particle board had a coat of something from the manufacturer on it...

Switched some little accessories around  as well!

Just filled the shelf with some rose soaps, Yankee candle ,cotton puffs, & q- tips!

This is definitely a small bathroom,but it's fresh & clean with a touch of cottage/glam..if that's a style ;)
Thanks for stopping by!

{ Apple Pie with a slight twist }

It's the weekend !! It's been rather cool here the last few days & I'm perfectly okay with that!! Cool weather means Fall has  { in my book } officially started! It was quite chilly again today so I decided to make a delicious apple pie! This apple pie is extra sweet / gooey & made with a 'secret' ingredient! Keep reading & find out  what the simple secret is ;) !

  • 1-2 bags Apple of your choice { I use Macintosh }
  • half stick Butter
  • 4-5 tablespoons Cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons Vanilla Extract
  • 2 tablespoons Sugar
  • 3 tablespoons HONEY<~~
  • 3 pinches brown sugar
  • Crust of choice
* Garnish with some thick vanilla ice cream & a tall glass of milk!  *

After you've peeled & diced or halved the apples mix all the ingredients together in a large bowl. Make sure all of the apples are coated nicely with the mixture. If the apples seem to need more just add an adjusted amount of each ingredient to the bowl. Now set your mixture aside for a few minutes & get your dish ready with the pie crust. I used store bought , because homemade is a bit to flaky & thin for this hearty apple pie recipe. You can use any crust { store bought or homemade }. Line the dish & fill the pie just over the rim of the dish!  Add a few butter squares  around the dish & then cover your pie & pinch edges closed! Last ,but not least put a few slits in the top of your pie & sprinkle some cinnamon on top. Bake on 350 until golden brown!

Side Note: I always use a cooking tray to set my dish on while baking just in case some pie filling drips out !!

I hope you all enjoy the start of everything cozy , warm,& delicious ! Remember to take it all in,because it's the little things in life that matter-Right?!

.. Dining Room ..

I picked up this cute beaded twine at Michaels for $7! It adds the perfect touch of Fall with a hint of rustic glitz to our chandelier !

Both of the layered trays are from HomeGoods! The white one was free & the wooden one was on clearance for $10!  Everything else I picked up at different times or was a gift. The bow however I made from leftover ribbon from a pack of pillows I bought at the lovely HomeGoods!

Mmm Baileys on a cold Fall night by the fire..Yes,Please!
*This canister was a free thrift find !

.. Kitchen ..

The pumpkin & leaf print  were from leftover paper I had & I just simply sized & framed!
