{ Meet our Rescues: FAQ's & An All About them!! }

Happy Monday everyone! I hope your weekend was filled with everything you love..Ours was a refreshing sunny Michigan weekend that almost felt like spring ALMOST ha. As I was snapping a photo of our two pibbles { Stink & Stew } this weekend something hit me..I've NEVER introduced them to you guys & went over each of their stories with you!! I don't know how I've missed this in the 4 years I've been blogging..I've shared them a bunch on my INSTAGRAM & FACEBOOK & you guys are always so nice!! Needless to say today's post isn't going to be decor related or pretty staged photos, buttt they will be super cute & bonus I'm sharing our rescue bunny too! Rescuing & adopting animals is something we're super passionate about & if you keep reading below I will share as much as my little fingers will allow me to type haha! These three have brought us so much joy  I can't wait for you to meet them!

:Background Info:

So our rescuing adventures all started wayy back in 2007 when my husband & I were dating as young 19 yr old babies. We were living with Mark's dad & wanted a dog, so we heard of one from a friend & decided to drive all the way to Delray, MI to pick her up..When we arrived it was a homeless man that had a whole littler of puppies near death in an abandon building..Mark ran in & grabbed the only girl & we rushed her back to my car & left. She was tiny smelly & to be honest I didn't think she was going to make it. I was too worried about my precious Mustang car being smelly to really realize the severity. Fast forward & she did make it & has been living with my mom & dad since we moved in 2008 to our  1st home { condo}. It's been over 10 years since we rescued Ginger & I can still remember it to this day PERFECTLY! We have a whole scrapbook of her first year etc..That same year we rescued Ginger my husband began working in the foreclosure business which unforgettably took him all around the inner city & Detroit has a huge stray problem. He started rescuing random dogs that would show up on job sites etc..After #5 my mom got interested & started rescuing as well & has now taken over & has jumped leaps & bounds in the rescue world. We've always been animal lovers even after I was nearly mauled to death at the age of 2. We have a special place in our hearts for pit-bulls especially. They're the most misunderstood dog with the most amazing love to give.

: Stinker :

Fast forward again to 2012 when we bought our second home..6 months into living in our new home Mark was on another job site & witnesses Stinker being kicked on a porch by kids & left out in the freezing cold  at the property he was working at. They obviously knew she was a stray & wanted her gone, so Mark opened up the work truck door & she hopped right in!! He brought her home & me being the nervous nelly I am made him set up a heater & bed in our insulated garage until morning...She was in rough shape, skinny, no fur around her eyes, impacted trash in her belly etc..The next morning- Dec 23, 2012 we officially decided to keep her!!! We call her our Christmas miracle. She fit right in with our then bunny Charlotte & we've had her ever since. She is estimated to be around 10 now, & a brown pit-bull mix.

:Stewart:

Stewy came to us two years later in 2014 from the mom of one of the rescues Mark brought home. Again, on a job site & two dogs a white pit-bull around 2 & a small brown baby pit-bull who were skin & bones wandered onto the property. This was one of the MOST heartbreaking cases...The female white pit was covered in scars, so skinny she could barely stand & the brown boy was about a day or 2 from death. Mark brought them home & we set them up in our garage until we could get them to a rescue etc.. My mom jumped in & found a vet to take them & get medical attention. The vet decided to adopt them but right before that she found out the white girl was pregnant!! This was NOT what we had hoped for..She was already sick with heart worm, skinny & now puppies..Once she gave birth we adopted one of her puppies since we couldn't adopt her { our female only likes males }. May 11, 2014 on Mother's Day Bell gave birth to 10 puppies!! We brought Stewart home 3 months later & he's been our baby ever since haha!

  • I love being a baby.

: Mr. Wibble :

Mr. Wibble is our Walmart parking lot bunny!! My mom was picking up the ashes of our late bunny Charlotte & some lady was getting rid of a bunny that looked like Char..We meet up with her in the Walmart parking lot & she handed over 1 yr old Wibble to us in a snow storm. He now is my office mascot & the crazy lion-head monster as we call him haha.

  • I look like a lion.
  • I have a heart on my head.
  • I nip mom's ankles for fun.
  • I am potty trained
  • I like to tease Stewart.
  • I'm crazy.
  • I have my own room like the pibbs.

:FAQ's:

  • Do we want more animals? - Yes, of course! This is partly the reason we are looking for more land!!
  • What kind of animals do we want? - We would love to have a few more dogs, bunnies, mini pony, pigs etc..No sheep, goats are cows are in the future!
  • Are we against breeders? - Yes,absolutely! There are too many animals in shelters as well as the population out of control. You can get pure breeds in shelters/ rescues & in our opinion the most needy are the best breed not to mention many of the breeding conditions are horrid. Would you want to be breed 10 zillion times??  #adoptdontshop
  • How many dogs have we rescued? - I would say Mark has rescued over 25 & my mom is in the 100's  #mytwoheros!
  • What can  YOU do to help rescues? - Donate, Advocate & Volunteer!
  • What is our favorite breed? - We don't have a favorite, but we own pit-bulls & think they're the most adorable.
  • What is our favorite rescue? - Again, we don't have a favorite, we believe if you're helping the voiceless, you're pretty fantastic!!!

{ 5 Tips for more Productivity & Creativity in your Office.

Hey everyone!!! Happy Wednesday..okay let's get right to it, so these last few months I fee like I haven't spent much time in my office, which is weird because I love my office...It's my creative outlet, our bunny runs free in there & it's MINE! I'm still doing the same amount of work, but it feels like I just haven't been in there much..Today I have been in here ALL day cleaning, organizing & well, writing up this blog post! So a few nights ago while out on a Target run with my sister I picked up some office supplies from the new Hearth & Hand collection...Yeah, don't go to Target after a few glasses of wine...eek! Anyways when I got home I decided after my splurge I would put these items to good use..or maybe I was just trying to convince myself I needed the items hahaha. Anyways today { Tuesday } I spent all day down here with the new items & decided I needed to put them to use in form of a post after I was finished updating, organizing & making my office freshened up!! Keep reading below for these SIMPLE tips..

1. Keep it BRIGHT.

For me this one is a bit tricky..My office is on our lower level { basement } & the light is shotty at best. For a brighter office I use 100 watt bulbs & keep both windows open for maximum light.

*Full office revamp with a brighter color HERE

2. Add GREENERY.

This is a no brainer for my flower/ greenery loving heart haha! I decided since I was craving spring to bring in some vibrant hydrangeas splashed all over! My office isn't big, but it's cozy, bright & feels fresh with flowers! *See my guide to farmhouse & cottage greenery HERE

3. DECORATE your office.

I know this goes against most post on productivity, but for more creative souls like myself I need decor. It helps keep things refreshed, fun & inspiring! Decorate your office with your small personal uncluttered touches & keep the color pallet light!

4. UPDATE equipment.

I'm almost embarrassed to type this as my equipment is super outdated!!! I think it stems from being lazy to transfer everything. I am in the works for a new computer SOON! The less equipment the best. Keep things simple & your desk only with things you use frequently!

5. Use ORGANIZING supplies.

This one is new to me. I usually don't buy into all the "organizational" tools etc..I tend to be pretty organized & a Type A." but this year as stated above I did buy a few thing to keep me even more on top of things. Again, keep it simple- things like planners, folders, journals, totes all help the clutter & creative juices flowing. Writing things down is a must in organization..or at least for me it is!

What do you think about these super simple tips? Do you incorporate any of these tips into your office? I hope these tips will help you in some way this year!!

Happy Wednesday!!

{ DIY Cottage Style Kitchen Wall Decor }

Happy Monday,friends!! Thanks for dropping back in on TQS, I hope your weekend was special or just downright cozy & relaxing. Ours wasn't anything fancy, we actually just rested & stayed in much of the weekend other than eating some Chinese Sunday & finishing a little project in the kitchen that kind of just fell together ...which is a going theme here on TQS haha but I guess that's what makes me a practical home blogger right?! I've been talking about this "newly" styled/projects in our kitchen for a few weeks now & after attempting a project I schemed up in my head it was just TOO much!!! Back to the drawing board & voila at 11pm on Saturday night after feeding the dogs & rabbit { we're night owls ha } I decided to add these little hooks & the aprons to the wall & scratch the other idea. I''ll get to that other idea in another blog post but lets just say frames can be tricky to work with...eeeek! Anyways come take a peek at this SUPER almost too simple DIY kitchen wall decor!!
Note: I'm sooo sorry these pictures are a bit dark..It's been super gloomy/foggy here in Michigan.

This wall is soo beat up with so many holes, paint chips etc..more on that later too. For now I wanted something simple & fresh for spring so I added these 3 silver hooks, 2 aprons & kept the vintage decals & basket of greenery.
*See original kitchen post before DIY H E R E

These hooks were originally behind the hutch behind this picture & were serving no purpose whatsoever because you couldn't even get to them..Why have them you ask?? Because they serve a wonderful memory to me!!! They were purchased up at my gram & gramps old cottage turned home. Mark & I bought them in a little shop up in town in summer of 2008 after we had purchased our first home which was our condo!!! The white apron was also my great grandpa's so I had to display it as well!

What I did...

I staggered them purposely to cover some not so pretty dings etc..& they just so happen to fit perfectly. I then hung the decals from them & then the aprons on the front of the hooks...SUPER simple & fresh!!!

What do you think of this super quick & simple fix until I execute the "real" project? I'm loving the cozy spring cottage appeal but  also the simplicity of this space!! What do you think?

Happy Monday!!

{ After Christmas Sale Shopping- What to buy Guide...?! }

Hey everyone!! I hope your weekend went well, I can't say ours was very exciting but Friday my sister & I did go on a little random adventure & of course while out on this little shopping excursion it dawned on me that I should probably blog this because it may be helpful & I've never blogged something like this before!! Dare to be different- ABSOLUTELY haha! Sooo, here it goes, while out shopping I came upon the section in the barn we were shopping at { Barn Antiques } with all of the leftover Christmas goodies..EEK back away F A S T was my first thought seeing as I have 8 bins of Christmas haha..Right as I was about to back away my sister goes " Wait STOCK UP" & it was all downhill from there hahah just kidding but she was so right!! I scored a bunch of stuff for under $37!!! So today I'm sharing my tips for shopping after Christmas / what types of items etc.. I also have a brand new VLOG post HERE for you to watch as well!! Anyways come see today's short but informative post below..

1. Shop a few weeks after Christmas!

Shopping just a few days after Christmas will get you some $$ off of the regular priced merchandise, but if you wait 2-3 weeks after you will get way more off!! This isn't the case for many stores as people will snatch the little bit of Christmas up for only 20-30% off,but more of the local shops etc.. will have things 2-3 weeks later marked at 75% off!!

2. Stock up on Christmas items!

This is a big one that I started doing a few years back & something my mom has done for many years- Thanks mom ha!! Don't just look for the electronics, clothes etc..but actually the Christmas items you can use to decorate for next year!! HUGE SAVINGS !!!

3. Pick the right items!

This is another one that I really want to touch on. So as mentioned above pick the Christmas items for next year..but if you're thinking "What kinds of items" I have you covered! The items that usually cost the most like tons of ornaments, especially if you're one of those people or bloggers that change the tree theme up each year. Signs are another item that run expensive usually. I picked a $35 sign up for $8!! Metal decor also is a good find! Anything metal is most likely durable & if at 75% off you should snag! I also picked up vintage style burlap ticking stripe stockings..They're timeless & I got them for $3 each..SCORE! Items like trees etc. are also good items to check on, but most of the time they're all gone by the time 75% hits.

What do you guys think about these tips for after holiday shopping ? Do you wait until after Christmas to stock up? What's your favorite thing to shop for?? Share the deals below!!! :)

Happy Monday!

{ Cottage Style Winter Gallery Wall Idea }

Happy Friday,friends!!! I don't usually post late on Friday's but I wanted to share this gallery wall with you since it's been the simplest spruce-up in our winter decor in our upper living room!! I took down most of the winter decor over a week ago,but left some of the flocked goods up & redecorated with some winter essentials until the end of February where I start pulling spring out hahaah.. Today started out rough with lots of nerves going { my dad got his cancer scans back today } & then I had to decide to pull myself together..Some light cleaning before the weekend, room refreshes & a blog post to make the day a bit better..works like a charm!!1 Anyways come see today's simple & short post on our rustic cottage style living room gallery wall..

It all started with that sign I spotted at HomeGoods for $13!! I knew as soon as I spotted it I needed it for this space..It's got that perfect rustic cottage look, metal & the size was perfect for this space!

I shopped our house for the greenery & re-added the wicker hanging baskets from Home Depot back to this space after Christmas! I left the flocked wreath up & the vintage inspired snow globes HERE along with the green & white candles!

**See this full space HERE

What do you think about this super simple gallery wall for winter? I'm in love with the rustic cottage feel & bonus it cost less than $30!! I hope you all have a lovely cozy weekend!

Happy Friday!
