{ Cozy Early Fall Home Decor Lookbook }

Hey pals! I hope your week has been everything you've needed! I've been needing these super hot temps to calm down ha, so I thought introducing some early fall inspiration & some first pics of our home spruced up after the mini makeover would be fun for you guys! I mean fall is just about everyone's favorite & I like to get a few posts out before the masses just so you guys can gather some simple & practical fall inspiration. Changing things out for the seasons doesn't have to be expensive or stressful & that's why I love being a "practical home blogger". A few simple items displayed is truly enough most of the time.  Anyways cutting the rambling short & let's get right into this simple fall lookbook around our home.

So after we had the upstairs painted all pure white it was already the end of August...This is partly the reason I jumped right into some minimal fall decor. This area is the coziest corner in the house & we have quite a few..This space was splashed with some mini burlap pumpkins & for now I'm loving it!

You can obviously tell how enthused the pibbs are hahaha! Stinks cute little {big} piggy butt matches so well with our warm fall decor hahah. I have a theme I'm going with this year & it's called simple & rustic ha. Give me all the dried tan flowers, cream & white throws + wood! Almost like an old mill meets fall florist haha..Only me!

I'm still working on this wall, but again I have a theme I'm craving this year & it's natural everything with that rustic 1930's mill loook! I'll be doing  a full post once this wall is complete. For now I added some fall-y sage greens & lots of dried wheat grasses, baskets & of course a new pillow from HomeGoods!

I hope you guys liked this quick fall lookbook idea! I know it's not super filled with fall but it's simple & showing my process of easing into fall the real life way. I hope it inspired you in some way or another. Wishing you all the BEST long weekend with friends & family!

Happy Thursday!

{ House Project UPDATE }

Hi pals! Happy Monday & welcome back to TQS blog. I wanted to super quickly pop on here to share some simple but cute touches we've added to our current home { Yes, we're still house hunting }. I wanted to spruce our current home up while still looking for our next one because it adds value, I crave it & I wanted a cozier look to our little cottage. We had a budget set for these updates including contracting fees etc..We came pretty close but almost everything got done & so far I'm loving it. A short rundown of what we wanted was to white wash the entire upper level, add new back + storm door, paint front door, add grids to doors & windows, hang an architectural address sign, & a few other things. I wanted this all done by September 1st because you guys know what that means...F A L L ha! I love my seasons & holidays, so wanted a fresh look this year! Anyways come see what we've been up to below..

Since I'm branded as a "practical home blogger" I like to keep it real & show our home in complete chaos like this picture. Everything piled on the dining room table..& currently still is. I feel bad posting these pictures because they're not inspiring but real & show the process of our daily life. I hope you guys don't mind.

Finally after 5 years of trying to save that vintage backdoor we decided to get a new cute cottage style one..Let's just say our contractor hates us right now hahaha..It needed so much work to get to this point!

Again, another not so great photo but the grids add that much more charm to this giant window! Ill be sharing the whole process soon!

This vintage linen closet is actually finished, just some styling & I'll be blogging it soon! I love the fresh white paint on her & the fresh wall paint for that matter!
** See the First Installment of this Vintage Door HERE

White on white on whiteeee haha! I can't wait to see how this photographs compared to the Dolphin Fin Grey that was previously in the dining area. I hope you guys liked this "update". I'm so sorry it's not more fun or staged..Hope you're enjoying the process with us!

Happy Monday!

{ Honest Glidden Paint Review..}

Happy Sunday friends!! I hope you all had an amazing weekend! This was my birthday weekend & of course we took on a whole house spruce up haha..only us! I can't say that it hasn't been fun because honestly it has been a huge chaotic fun weekend around here. Tons of sweets in the house, projects, fun contractor & lots of laughs! I wanted to give a little review on the paint we { I } chose for the "white wash" of almost our entire upper level! So I randomly chose Glidden because I was originally just going to freshen up our grey/blue accent wall...Well then I got carried away & decided to do the whole upper level crisp pure white. Since I had already started with Glidden I decided to keep with the same brand..Oh & hire our contractor to finish hahaha! I have a bad -HORRID- back  & after two walls I was spent. Fast forward to the second day & 3 coats later & it still needed another...Mind you that our walls were not dark or anything crazy. They were painted with a gloss finish which I know takes a lot to cover but it was to the extreme. We've used Glidden before & loved the products with no issue. With being honest though, we usually ALWAYS use Behr. Keep reading to gather more insight + info..
P.S. This post is to inform of our opinion only not to discredit any company or product.

The after did come out nicely, but again with many coats.

PROS:
  • Price- under $22 per gallon can
  • Finishes
  • Paint + Primer
 CONS:
  • Coverage
  • Thickness or lack of..
  • Performance
  • Primer didn't seem to work well
  • Bubbles

**Sneak peeks..I'll be doing a whole house spruce-up post soon..Stay tuned & you can follow me via my social media outlets for DIRECT updates..Links top right of blog.

This space we were covering a chalkboard & it took MANY coats..to be expected but it didn't seem to want to cover..

These are just some of the key points I wanted to touch on. Coming from a contractors point of view it was very irritating. Like I said, we have used Glidden before  on other things with no issues. I think for walls we still stick to @behr though..Again, these are just our opinions. I would recommend buying mini cans to do test on a few different paint brands before choosing one for a huge area. I honestly wouldn't buy Glidden for a huge space again, but for other little projects definitely!

I hope this post helps inform you on our experience & can help you in some way with your painting needs! What's your favorite paint to use?

Happy Sunday, pals!

{ Vintage Linen Closet Door Update Pt.2 }

Hey pals!! They for stopping back in on my little blog! It's been a minute since I did an update on this vintage linen closet door we put in our little cottage the other weekend! My backs been killing from painting our upper level & I decided to take  a day to "recover". The last update HERE was to show you guys what it looked like in the super raw state & at that point the door didn't fit too well..Since then we trimmed it down a few more times, cleaned it up & I even styled it a bit...well just for this post ha. It's a short post, but I wanted to keep you guys in the loop since some of you have asked about how we got it, how old etc.. Anyways today I quickly & out of my norm wanted to share this quick fresh Saturday update!

Even though this isn't how it looks right now & most likely won't be like this next time you see this closet. I wanted to show the clean, almost finished a little today! As you can see I haven't painted the back of it & I'm not sure I will..

No knob & still needs some paint, but I love her hahaha! She adds so much charm to our home & for nearly free. You can see the original post for details on where this door came from etc.. & Yes, I know the window panes have paint on them..I find the chippy look so cute!

I wanted to share this view into the room because as of right now everything is being white washed FINALLY! It needed it really bad , so finally it's being done, but still not sure about this color. Anyways a post for another day!

My grandpa's beloved stool & the only one I'm not deathly afraid to stand on....Y'all know I hate heights..eeek
Original post: HERE

I realized something while painting a bunch this week...I actually do like it but I'm like a.d.d at it haha. Anyone knows me, knows that I'm so ocd about things so that's so not like me ha. Anyways I said after all this painting I better have arms of steel haha..I kid!

I'm so glad the original hardware was still intact. I'll be reviewing it in the final post, which is coming super soon. It's projects that you think will be quick, actually turn out to take forever & vise versa! So,what do you think of progress? Hope you enjoy!

Happy weekend!

{ Late Summer Farmhouse Dining Room }

Hey pals!! Happy glorious sunny Sunday! I'm feeling tired, but the best type of tired because we have been having so much fun this weekend with friends & getting some home projects completed! One of my husband's work partners stayed over & let's just say I had the boys up at 830am putting trim up just so I could blog it ASAP hahaah only me! Anyways, since they were up early I decided I would blog on this beautiful Sunday & then get to cleaning & painting... I mentioned last week that it has been a tough week & I was a bit indifferent with my mind & thoughts, so to snap me back out of it I decided to refresh our summer dining room for a more "late summer" dining look. I know, I know it's not even the end of August, but for "blogland" September first is when I start with the Fall  goods! To be perfectly honest this summer has been kind of a wash, so I am super excited to finish it out with a bang & get going on Fall! Anyways come see what I came up with for this super new fresh look...

My theme for this was to have a late garden look. You know that look that comes about in in early September when things are getting darker, the flower buds are dropping & the leaves start rustling about with warmer colors...Well that was my inspiration for this "late summer dining room". I need to remember to start sharing with you guys more of what I'm thinking during my processes etc.. I usually just start decorating spaces & then get an idea & go with it. I know a lot of you ask how I come up with certain spaces & that's just it, I kind of just go with it & then plan...I know completely backwards.  These stems & the tobacco baskets scream late summer & bonus I has both already! I've said this a million times before, but my decor gets used ALL OVER our home multiple times before I sell or donate it. Practical for all homes without breaking the bank is my theme.

I love these vintage wooden crates stacked next to this chippy chair, it's almost saying summer's coming to an end & it's time to harvest now. I love the calming factor Fall brings especially in the north here in Michigan. It rejuvenates me SO much!

I'm not the greatest painter or artist by ANY means, I leave that to my artist sister but I did so this little painting & I'm kind of obsessed with the imperfections & chippiness of it! That's what happens when you get bored & can't sleep on a Sunday night :)

I wanted to share I night view since I rarely ever do. I love when the lights just going down in here & the bunnies are out in the back of  our property  running around eating the fresh grass...It's simple & magical kind of like this cozy little dining room! I truly hope you guys liked this post today!

CHEER TO YOU ALL ON THIS SUNDAY!

{ DIY Vintage Linen Closet Door Pt. 1 }

Hey pals!!! Oh my does it feel good to be back! I think since starting this blogging business/ journey almost 5 years ago this is the longest break in my usual 3-4 posts per week! I have been feeling really under the weather...I am happy to report though projects are still taking place & today I'm here to give a sneak peek at something we have been working on & I'm so excited!! I realize I've been doing these "pt.1" posts a lot & I promise there will be follow-ups soon!! Today is all about the raw before this door gets cleaned, sanded & painted! I know some of you after seeing the "before" will not be happy with me deciding to paint it white, but to be honest the door is from 1940 & it has some obvious wear & tear at the bottom & needs some TLC! We have two of these doors from an old historic office in Detroit & this one was in the best condition. Anyways enough rambling come see the before below...

So , I couldn't stand the dirt or clutter anymore, so until it's finished I slightly styled her up & washed her with some cool water & a rag!  She already shines so lovely in this space & makes this hall so much brighter with adding that rustic charm we love so much!
*See the closet beforeHERE

We started by picking hardware out. We just stuck with dark bronzed & the original handle with go with after it's completed! After the hardware was purchased we hung the door & then the sanding started..It's a little bowed from the moisture & it sitting abandoned for some time but it will work once it's sanded & cleaned up! The hardware is from Home Depot

This is before I washed her up a bit for the sake of my OCD . Like I said above once it's completely sanded & painted we will add the original hardware back on, I cant wait to show you guys!!!

Don't mind the dog lounge/room in the background- it was a mess ha.
You can see it all together HERE

What do you guys think of this update to our little cottage? I'm in love & still can't believe she's finally hung & almost ready for paint after trim!! I'm excited to style this & share the final project soon! Not bad for a free find right?! Let me know down below what you think?

 Happy Friday!
