{ DIY Faux Farmhouse Wood-Grain Coffee Table Top }

Okay, so I probably should start 85% of my posts out with " I started this project on a whim" haha, but honestly you guys it's so true of me. I'm such a planner in my everyday life, but when it comes to decor & mostly projects I kind of just go with them & that's exactly how this one started!! I was cozied up the other night while watching Tuck Everlasting { Don't laugh} & decided I would sit in front of our little fireplace & give this thrifty coffee table in our upper living room a makeover...at 2a.m !! I don't know what made me want something warmer, but I thought it needed something other than the crisp white I gave it when we found it. I think with the holidays coming up I crave those warmer wood tones.. This table is wood, but had so many layers of paint that I didn't want to sand { impatient Paige } so I came up with something sooo much easier & I'm kind of obsessed with how it turned out & for less than $10!! Come see below what I did!!!!

S u p p l i e s

  • Brillo Pad
  • Chalk Paint {tan or brown} depending on grain color preference { First coat before roughing up}
  • Dark Wax
  • Paint Brush
  • Cloth

 D i r e c t i o n s

Clean the table with water & let dry. Put a thin layer of your chalk paint down & let dry!! After the chalk paint is dry, use your Brillo pad to gently rough up the surface. Wipe the area clean of any loose material & begin putting the dark wax down in long strokes. I put about 3 coats on & let dry, then took the Brillo pad & very gently went over the top for a bit more of a distressed look! The dark antiquing wax can be purchased +Walmart !

I love the variations in the wax it's almost like real wood grain shwoing. I also like the fact that the top is protected now & without having to mess with stain/sanding etc.. I'll probably get sick of this too, but for now I love the warmness it brings into the living room.!

**The table was a free find, the rug is from +Ruggable® 2-Piece Rug System   & the crocks are free junkin finds!

I decided to leave the lower level white for now & just added an old chippy chicken wire basket!

I used an old glass window for the centerpiece & then just filled some old vintage crocks with greenery from +IKEA USA  & +Michaels Stores ...Super easy & cozy!

I hit some of the detailing on the table with some leftover wax on the cloth, but made sure not to technically "outline" it. I just wanted it to look a bit aged & distressed naturally!

Like most of my projects, it isn't perfect & that's what makes it that much more charming & rustic!

So what's your take on this DIY? Do you like the dark wax faux wood grain technique? Have you ever worked with dark waxes for projects? Let me know below , I love hearing from you guys!

Happy Tuesday!

{ Farmhouse Style Entrance Inspiration }

Hey everyone welcome back! I'm just going to start by saying this week has been insane in almost every way possible..Like seriously what has been up with 2016...give a girl a break  PLEASE haha! You guys know when I'm feeling overwhelmed with stuff I like to online window shop, gather inspiration & redecorate our little suburban cottage!! Tonight while I was laying in bed dreading everything needing to be done & everything happening { spider bite, broken appliance, water stuff & work } I decided to put together a little farmhouse entryway since I don't think I've ever done a mood board like this!?.. Our entryway is separate from our kitchen & living room,but it is tiny & a bit hard to decorate around because of our little step-up. This mood board I put together could work with just about ANY entry with a little tweaking of the table etc.. Come see what items I used with some sources/links.
You can see our Farmhouse Fall Entry here---> Fall Farmhouse Entryway

All these items can be found just about anywhere, or at the places under each picture. What do you guys think of this simple farmhouse entrance mood board??

Wishing you all a happy Thursday!

{ Cozy Farmhouse Style Fall Harvest Tablescape }

You guyssss I'm so excited to share this cozy little tablescape with you!! So even though neutral decor is my jam usually I always seem to find myself adding super warm cozy tones during late October..I mean don't get me wrong I love all the neutral pumpkins, but I also crave the authentic warm oranges, greens & deep browns that late October & November entail especially for Thanksgiving!!! I was finishing up the day's chores early this morning & while finishing organizing the spice cabinet I managed to bust a huge mason jar all over the kitchen..Which then prompted me to spot these little crocks I had stashed away in the cupboards!!! I actually was going to be making some homemade french onion soup today for dinner, but with this crazy warm/humid Michigan weather that definitely wasn't happening...So what do I do with these cute little crocks?? Stage them of course hahaha! Come see this super cozy & warm tablescape that would be great for Thanksgiving etc..

How cute are these little crocks? I love using them every fall for soups & stews! These were thrifty finds many years back! You can see last year' table here-->Charming Thanksgiving Tablescape

I spotted this greenery that screams pumpkin patch to me for some reason..Don't ask me the name because you guys know this "black thumb" has no clue haha. I picked 2 bushels up +Michaels Stores  for under $6 {originally almost $20 a bunch } with their 60% sale!!! The large pot was a free find..I love the fall style detail!!!

The pumpkins are also from +Michaels Stores  & I picked them up also on sale for 60% off , which made them $5.

I've mentioned this before, but I use the same decor ALL OVER our home!! When I say I'm thrifty, I mean it!! I literally use the same stuff in probably 4-5 posts before selling, donating etc.. Just like this " Harvest Blessings" sign from +HomeGoods !!

What do you guys think of this warm & festive tablescape? Do you like to use color in your fall/ Thanksgiving table decor?? Let me know below & keep up with me via my social media links below!!

Wishing you all a happy & healthy Tuesday!!!

Hello Monday & welcome back everyone!! { Masculine Vintage Office/ Den using Thrifty Finds!! }

Okay today is one of those posts that I've debated on posting because it isn't "perfect". This is one of those things I struggle with the most...So today while my mom was over she popped in to our bedroom in the back of the house to see  yesterday's post in person & while walking by my husband's office she mentioned how "cute" I mean masculine it looked..I kind of shrugged it off & said Yaa...BUT it's not finished!! I kinda of stopped & thought " when will it be finished" aka perfect?! I decided it's time to stop with that thinking & just blog it how it looks in the now!!! Our home is real & not just for show, so today I'm sharing his thrifty vintage style office as it is as of right now! I had a particular theme/style I was going for with his new office & it pretty bunch came together, well so far the way I had planned out! If you've been following the blog you would know my husband started his own business after being in the home/maintenance field for nearly 10 years...We started out with a little nook in our laundry room here:Office Nook , but since it grew these past 9 months we moved it upstairs into one of our spare rooms!

I started off by adding this vintage stool/shop chair because something about it just screamed "manly" haha! The glass window is vintage & I just used some leftover chalkboard paint to write o f f i c e on it. I was going for the classic 1930's vintage cozy office feel. I love the wood color & overall charm of it! The desk was actually mine that I used for a vanity for awhile! I ended up giving it a little cream/white paint dusting & then distressed the edges in brown!

The filing cabinet was a thrifty find ..You can see what we did with the other one here:DIY Bedroom Garment Organizer The rocker is from my great grandpa , the books are vintage & the clock was a wedding gift from my late aunt.

The office organizers are from +Target  & the wood crate below was a free junkin find.

Side Note: The glass case has his reading glasses, the ones that are out are from a trip & we found them while snorkeling.. hence the dirty lenses hehe

Now that I'm looking at these pictures I actually think it looks pretty decent so far.. A few more touches & it should be good! I'm thinking of adding a few distressed leather pillows & maybe a new cozy chair for him?! Stay tuned for more updates!!! What do you guys think of this vintage manly office/den update??

Happy Thursday!

{ DIY Filing Cabinet to Garment Organizer for under $10!! }

Welcome back to my little blog & happy Wednesday! I'm so sorry I've been off my regular schedule of blogging 4-5 days a week, but this past weekend was very hard on our little family. When life throws curve balls for no reasons to good people it literally makes you want to snap...We're trying to stay calm & think that the "higher power" has another plan, but let's just say some "people" are cruel. Anyways we're going to be okay & after some regrouping I decided I needed to get back to my work aka TQS & I had just the project to feature today!!! So a few days back I spotted these 2 black filing cabinets being pitched & I've been wanting some, soooo of COURSE I snagged them!! They were in fair condition & I knew I wanted one for my husband's office { I'll be blogging SOON} & the other I wanted to DIY for our master bedroom into an undergarment organizer!! So a little back story...we came from having "his & hers" pretty large closets at our condo. When we moved into this home we only had one little walk-in-ishh closet & so we decided to make that into a vanity. We picked up some +IKEA USA  built-in style closets & a middle piece that was just a cheapy white organizer from +Target ! I wanted something more cozy & cottagey with more room, so I broke out the +Walmart  Waverly brand chalk paint & got to work!!!

S U P P L I E S:
  • Paint Brush or Sponge Brush
  • Chalk Paint of any kind
  • Brillo pad to distress or sand paper
  • Dark Wax
  • Tags/labels or use paper

D I R E C T I O N S:

  • Wash entire cabinet & dry.
  • Apply 2-3 coats chalk paint { messy or uneven doesn't matter }
  • Distress in spots where natural "wear & tear" would happen
  • Hit those distressed spots with dark wax & wipe extra off
  • Add tags/ labels

I decided to leave the inside black for more contrast & to save paint. I hit all the edges with dark wax for that rusted/ aged look!

I kept the styling simple with a little lamp from +HomeGoods  & some flowers from +Hobby Lobby . The metal watering can & chalkboard charm are from +Kohl's .

I love this little customized garment organizer!! It's so deep & gives the room so much charm with the generic closet built-ins!

I had some old business cards laying around, so I used the backs for the labels. Of course my Sharpie decided to run out..Anyways I love the way they turned out! The old rustic charm gives our little cottage bedroom even more charm than before. I will be doing a fall tour of our bedroom & some new things happening in our cozy room asap!

I used the dark wax to hit the handles & chip a few areas etc..

 What do you guys think of this simple & thrifty DIY? I mean for under $10 & the charm & storage it adds has me in love!!!! Let me know below what you guys think?

Wishing you all a happy Wednesday!!!!
