{ Farmhouse Dog Lounge Inspiration Board }

Well welcome back to the blog everyone!! I trust you all are having a lovely week & if you aren't I surely hope that changes!! Today I wanted to pop on here & share the "design" or inspiration board as I call them for our dog room/ lounge! I will be sharing why we converted this room after 5 years & giving all the details in the reveal post coming soon! Today I'm simply just sharing the board I put together about a week ago on what I wanted for this cozy,BUT super simple & functional dog space! Most of the items are super functional for our dogs  because they're super lazy hehe. They love this room, so it was about time we made it more for their needs hahah..Spoiled right?..They are two of the most deserving rescues though so it wasn't a problem doing this for them & bonus this room turned out super cute & not too "dog-ish". Come see more of the inspiration below!!

**Though I didn't use many of these items in the actual room, I did find items like it locally that I implemented into the space easily! I will list the items in the inspiration board with Direct Links for your ease below!

{ Types of Cottage & Farmhouse Style Flowers/ Greenery around our Home}

So one thing that I always go for when beginning to decorate a space or when I'm trying to cozy it up with some rustic elements would be flowers & greenery!!! It's my go to item other than pillows/throws to be honest! I've mentioned before that I'm a horrible "green thumb" but that doesn't mean I don't have tons of faux greenery around haha! I get my greenery from @Michaels & @HobbyLobby usually, but I also have a ton from @ikea! There are certain kinds I always go for & that's what today's post is about!!! I know some will think " Isn't all greenery the same" & I would have to say no..I usually always choose the same type of cottagey/farmhousy greenery for our little suburban cottage & it kind of goes something like this..Anything white/rustic/simple & neutral! I hardly ever or never use greenery like cactus, colorful bouquets, or super extravagant flowers! I would say the simpler the better if you're trying to achieve the farmhouse/cottage style..Anything dusty looking { example:Lambs Ears } white, cream, all green with different textures are great for this style!

Some of my FAVORITES to use:

  • Lambs Ear
  • Boxwood anything
  • Fiddle Fig
  • Hydrangeas
  • Peonies
  • Olive Branches
  • Herbs { like the Ikea mini plants }
  • Succulents
  • Cotton Stems
  • White Tulips
  • Baby's Breath

The cream tabletop planter is from @homegoods part of the Rae Dunn collection & is filled with some "Herb" style plants from IKEA! They run about $5 each!

*See this full post HERE

I love greenery with simple green leaves & branches like the faux ones from Michaels! I mixed in some white flowers that I believe are Peonies { I'm probably wrong }. Leave me the name in the comment section if you know!! :)

Green & white Hydrangea Stems are my favorite filler for just about anytime of the year!

Out of all my flowers these little white ones are my favorite! They look soo simple & rustic & go with ANYTHING!!

Side Note: I don't have the name of these, so sorry! #blackthumb

Hydrangea Plant.

I believe these are white" Johnny Jump Ups"!

This Boxwood wreath is from Target & it's held up so well for being real & preserved! It does shed a bit but was so worth the $45!!

**Full Summer Dining Room Post HERE

These tall Topiaries are from IKEA!

Another type of faux Topiary pre planted tree!

More on this post HERE

These mini Succulents are from Dollar Tree & the grasses are from Hobby Lobby!

I hope this little guide gave you an idea of what or how cottage. farmhouse greenery looks when decorated with or helped you find what type of greenery to achieve that cozy farmhouse style!! What are your favorite flowers to use in the summer??

Happy FRIDAY!!

{ Top 5 Decor Mistakes New Homeowners Make..}

Hey everyone welcome back to another week with TQS! I hope you all had an amazing summer weekend..I didn't do much but I'll be sharing very soon why etc..So I was searching through old pictures on my phone trying to clean out stuff & came across some from our first home...I thought I would share some of my biggest mistakes decor wise as a first time homeowner for those of you just purchasing a home, condo,apartment etc..I gathered 5 simple decor mistakes to try & avoid while decorating your first place! I'm no professional, but these 5 tips could save you from having to redecorate, waste money & or time! I wish I would have known these before decorating our first place..Keep reading below for details!

1. Spread Pillows Out on the Sofa!

This is one of those decorating tips I learned after moving from our first home! I see it a lot in new homeowners wanting to group the pillows in both corners of the sofa or sectional. They're stacked so closely you can't enjoy their uniqueness & they just look bulky instead of cozy!

2. Don't Use Small Scale Items..

Ahh I was the queen of doing this in our first home { condo }! Our master bedroom is the first that comes to mind actually! Placing items that are to small for the scale of the space can make the area look cluttered with trinkets instead of a cozy well established space! The bigger the decor items the more of an impact! Smaller items can get lost in the space & appear not styled!

3. Don't Overdo Family / Wedding Gallery Walls!

Okay, so I have to admit this was one of my biggest obstacles decorating!!! We were freshly married, young & embarking on our first place as a couple & well I went a bit crazy sharing our "love story" in pictures, wedding mementos & family pictures haha! Although I'm not into gallery walls I know they are super trendy right now. With that being said don't go overboard with wedding pictures, wedding treasures, etc.. I even had a shadow box displayed with our wedding goods out..Yeah...way too much "couple overload " ha! People will get you're in love, but overdoing can look like a love-fest instead of a nicely decorated home with some simple pictures displaying your love & who you are as a couple.

4. Don't Match Everything..

This is another thing I see with new homeowners that are just starting to decorate..making everything match !! I was also guilty of this in so many ways!! I can remember a picture of our condo dining room & thinking it was a black & white photo because everything was black, white & grey!!! I would only purchase thing that were in that color scheme because they matched the other decor! Not even thinking do I like these items, but just because they matched it was okay...Remember if you like  neutral & not a lot of color that's fine, but throw some greenery in or pick a color. Not everything has to match..Pick items you LOVE for your style,not because they go with other items!!

5. Don't Showcase Everything!

This is probably one of my biggest pet peeves when I see someone else decorating or showing their home etc.. They show EVERYTHING!! Nobody wants to see your expensive vacuum, piled shoes, hair products or every appliance you own on your kitchen counter! Pick one or none & keep it simple,clean & styled not showcased! A more styled rather piled of showcased items looks for attractive!

I hope these tips helped you if you're a first time homeowner struggling with decorating or you just needed some quick tips!

{ Summer Cottage Dining Room + New HomeGoods Plate Decor }

Happy Monday everyone! I mentioned a few days ago I was blogging this but didn't get to it over the weekend because of technical issues & because I was relaxing to be quite frank hahaha..So today I'm so excited to share our summery dining room with you guys! I was randomly browsing HomeGoods the other day not even looking for anything & spotted these awesome plates I knew I had to grab!! They reminded me of an old fashioned country diner & I liked that there weren't a ton of them!!! You all know I'm not into Rae Dunn like everyone else is..not because I don't like the items, but because it's so popular! I have one Rae Dunn piece { the planter in this post } & that is it...So see I needed some plates to top off our little cottage cabinet since it was looking a little bland.. Come see more below!

I love the classic like 60"s cozy diner feel they give with the black & white simple detail! They match just about any decor, large enough to use as platters & were only $20 for 3!!

I kept with the greens, creams & bunches of hydrangeas because after taking down our flag decor for the 4th, I decided I wanted to keep up our Kathryn White hydrangea print because I love it & it screams summer! I just added some grey ticking stripe cloth napkins, vintage masons & some wood accents..& boom our summer dining room is complete- for now ha!

I love the sun setting in our little dining room! I wish we could pick this little cottage up & move it sometimes hehe

I was worried they wouldn't fit because they are pretty large,but they just fit!

I love this clean looking cabinet..The bottom is filled though with all sorts of dishes etc.. Fun fact about me, I love dishes!! The ones that are on the sides of the new plates are vintage from my grams & I'm obsessed with the gold detailing. I use them every Christmas & have about 60 of them!!

I hope you guys liked this short little decor update!! Sometimes when you're not searching for something you find the cutest goods..life meme too LOL?! What do you think about these plates added to our summer cabinet?

Happy M o n d a y!

{ Flea Market Style Summer Porch }

Whoa what an awesome fourth weekend y'all! I'm lagging today from vacation, but it was soo nice to get away from home for a few days...even though we love everything home obviously it's still nice to take time away from our businesses , projects, marketing etc.. you should try it asap! I swear it's like soul rejuvenating haha! So when we got back home our porch was still half decorated for the fourth, weeds were taking over & it definitely needed some new { old } things for summer! I picked up some things while we were up north & decided to add them to the front for something simple & on the cheap! Truth be told I also picked up some things while junkin at our cottage this weekend that are fall..I know don't hate me, but I can't wait to decorate for fall haha SORRY! Anyways I might have been lagging & slacking on things that n e e d e d to be done today, but instead I'm sharing this little flea market goodie filled space! Come see more below!!!

This sign was a free find & today I just gave it a fresh coat of black paint & used my Dremel to add some holes & burlap string to hang it!  Easy peasy & super summery!

I was telling my sister while styling this that one thing that kinda is a "pet peeve" of mine is not having the front porch area nice..I mean the inside isn't always in the best staged shape but I mean I have been known to clean & style a space at 2am ha. The porch however I can't so long story short it needed some work today!

The wood crate & galvanized buckets were both flea market finds as well as the milk cans, lantern & wire baskets! I love these items because they can be used anywhere & of course are durable!

The pillow covers are from @ikea & the table cloth is actually an old pillow cover that *cough #ourpup* someone ripped the zipper off of..Repurpose right?!

I hope you guys liked this post on our summery porch! This space basically cost me nothing & it's neutral enough to change little things out throughout the rest of our short Michigan summer! Let me know what you like to use in the summertime on your porch/ patio decor wise below!!
