{ 4 Ways to Use Baskets in Your Home }

Sometimes, well a lot of times we as humans over complicate things...even decor!! I was on the sofa resting after a workout { yay for resolutions ha} & started thinking about the one thing that I use ALL the time around the house time & time again! I know what you're thinking, GREENERY,  but nope it's not greenery although a close match  ha! BASKETS! I love a good neutral textured basket for so many reasons!! They're eye appealing, warming,  hide unsightly items, add texture & can be moved or used in many different ways easily..4 in which I'm sharing here on the blog today!!!!

1. Throws & Pillows

Baskets of any type are such a good way to display  comfy throws without them being strung all over when not being used. Simply draping the throw out of the basket,  so you still can see it or folding them nicely! Pillows are the same, stack, stuff & display!!

2. Storage

 It's no secret that sometimes we need extra storage or storage for unsightly items..I keep all our toilet paper in a smaller basket in the linen closet! Keeps the rolls organized & not as "unsightly " ha.

3. Planter

This admittedly is my favorite basket use or "hack"! It adds so  much to an otherwise plain planter, it's thrifty & versatile! I love it because it's also easy to move larger plants, not to mention it's just more eye appealing in decor land ha!

4. Shoe Storage

This is kind of a bonus number, because it's in the same lines of unsightly items..but I had to share because not everyone might think of this! So we have a small mudroom closet, but I keep seasonal extra shoes in a large basket across from the mudroom front entryway too! It's super convenient,  thrifty & still stylish!

Do you use any of these basket tips or decor in your home? Remember decor doesn't have to be expensive,  impractical or stressful!

Happy Thursday!

{ Best Simple Bathroom Shelf Styling}

Some days are harder than others...I've been having a lot of hard days, there I said it! It's hard for me to admit I struggle physically at 32 years old with chronic vertigo, autoimmune disease & scoliosis! While waiting for my daily Epsom salt bath to fill after my workout regimen & as I was looking at the bathroom shelf I realized I never blogged how to or what to style a bathroom shelf with for decor + functionality!! So, I grabbed my camera & today I'm sharing a few short tips on how to style a small bathroom shelf with cozy everyday goods!!

ESSENTIALS:

  • .Greenery
  • .Storage
  • .Jars/ salts
  • .Fresh towels/ washcloths
  • .Scrubs/ soaps
  • . Loofah/ sponges

TOWELS
I like to keep fresh washcloths out & especially clean towels hanging! I tend to go white because they're easier to bleach & look crisper!

LOOFAH/ SPONGES
Adding items like natural loofah or sponges add that natural spa like feeling & texture! Mine were super  affordable &bonus they look cute out!

GREENERY
Any type of plant real or faux will do! It brings in that refreshing nature feel while freshening the air! This one is a faux fern, hopefullya real plant once spring hits!

GLASS JARS
I like to use glass jars & bottles to store Epsom salts, scrubs etc.. instead of the in the store bags etc. .easier to work with, store & more appealing with cute simple labels!

STORAGE
For storage I just brought in more neutral texture with this mini wicker basket! I keep all my costume jewelry in there for easy access!

I hope these tips were helpful! I honestly don't think I've ever written a post like this, but at this point 7 years later posts are running together haha. Do you use any of these tips/ decor in your bathroom?

Happy Tuesday!

{ Farmhouse Living Room Lamp }

There has been one space in our upper living room that has needed " something" since before Christmas...It's the far left corner that always seems to need something but until now I haven't found the right item. Rewind to Saturday when I found someone selling something on Facebook  Marketplace I was looking for for another project { I'll be sharing soon}. Mark ended up going to get it late that night before the snow was supposed to come..When he arrived he was greeted by a nice young man who was being relocated to Switzerland for work & needed to get rid of every ASAP. We was super nice & offered the original piece, brand new bags of candy & chocolates, plant stand,  end table & well this amazing pottery barn floor lamp!! It came with an adjustable body & cozy cream nightshade! See more below.......

This corner always has needed something...Doesn't matter which way the sectional is positioned or decor it's just bare!! I never imagined that a floor lamp could be so perfect for the space to be honest! My mom had floor lamps in the early 90s paired with pink carpet & feathered walls { which was super in at that time}..maybe that through me off  with the floor lamp idea haha

I love the simplicity of this lamp but also the creamy thick cloth lamp & sturdy base! I don't think I've ever loved this decor & set up in the living room more than now!!

I hope you loved this living room update!! I love taking you along even on the small  updates,  projects or just thrifty finds. I'm so glad I came across that post..I have to admit I get weary about meeting random people off of marketplace for furniture, but this guy restored both Mark & I's faith that there still are good people out there.

Happy Monday!

{ Simple Cottage Bedroom Chandelier }

One thing that I have learned since blogging is sometimes you have to compromise in decor if something isn't working correctly! I mean I guess that's life in many ways too... Actually that's been my life for the last year or more..COMPROMISE! My health is at an all time low & so I have to compromise a lot of the time these days! One space I've always compromised in is our master! I love the space but it's not exactly how I would have it..I would add walk- in closets, a centered window & a few other things... Well fast forward to today & I decided I was over compromising on not having a pretty chandelier in there! I decided to add an old bed & breakfast circa 1930 one!! My dad converted it to a plug in years back, so all I had to do was swag the chain, clip the chain & hide the excess cord!  Come the freshened up bedroom & "new" old chandy...

The charm,  history & overall vintage feel of this piece is stunning! I do see though I need to polish it up ha..Good ole photography always picking up the dust haha..real life folks!!

I don't think since adding fresh white bedding,  new throw pillows & the chippy fireplace I've  blogged this space...To be honest it needs new paint, bed frame & the lighting was / is super bad in here. It's one of my favorite spaces though, go figure..

Super excited to get this space spruced up & actually decorated for spring...big vision!!

After I photographed this spot, I remembered I had these crisp white chandelier shades...whooops!! Ugh, so I snapped a few night shots..I took a pole on Instagram too..Most said without! I'm on the fence!!

We're planning on a new BIG piece for this area soon, but until then the new vintage chandy, warm fireplace { this rooms so cold} & new bedding will do!!

Happy Thursday!!

Wishing you all a happy & healthy Friday & weekend!

{ Fresh Winter Kitchen Window }

 After a comfy icy weekend inside,  it was definitely a rough start to the week. Some people just aren't nice..but back to this weekend for a minute! I decided to put many of our small appliances away from being on the countertops for a few reasons..First one being we aren't die hard coffee drinkers..shocker, gasp, OMG , but we just aren't.  We occasionally like a hit Keurig latte, cappuccino or Mark likes a regular coffee..So I out it away in our built in appliances cabinet above the pantry { I showed it in my IG stories }. Secondly,  there was just too much stuff on our counters & it wasn't appealing ha. Come on now, you guys know by now us "bloggers" do anything for the decor appeal or "shot" haha. Today I'm on here to show your our fresh winter kitchen window area..

Essentials:
.Soaps
.Caddy
.Brushes
.Sprays

I wanted to try the new Mrs Meyers scent, so I picked these light blue packaged ones up, which was perfect for wintertime! I had an old blue pot I stuck a scrubby brush in & added some cypress to vintage milk bottles! The fresh dish towels add coziness & functionality !

Our kitchen isn't huge, but we do have tons of storage & two built -in pantries! I moved nearly everything off the sink area including small appliances,  but decided to keep this vintage white cabinet that holds teas, sugar, Kcups etc..

I love these cypress branches which add that bit of freshness even in the dead of our Michigan winter!

DIY KITCHEN BACKSPLASHHERE

I kept the lamp because It's useful for us + I find something sooo cozy about a lamp on the counter, not to mention in draws the dining space in with the matching chandelier shade!

Do you have your appliances all out on the counters or are they stored in a separate area? I hope you find this refreshing!

{ Rustic Winter Basement }

You know those spaces that aren't exactly how you want them to be or you just cant get right, but you still use & love them a lot...Yep, that's our lower level!! We use it when we host, have company,  casual gatherings or just when Mark & I have movie night etc.. Oddly enough we use it WAY more in winter, so I thought it was about time I showed how it looked all comfy & rustic for winter!! Come see the whole space below...

After Christmas I wanted to keep it extra fresh & comfy, so I used a bunch of rich woods, & cypress branches! I kept a lot of textured baskets , woods, green candles & pine tree accents!

This coffee table we had upstairs,  but moved it down to this bigger space & it was a perfect fit! Rustic, cottagey cabin & big for when we have company over!!

I had an idea of what I wanted it to look like before I even got the Christmas down the day after Christmas..I wanted a winter themed Irish pub feel..if that makes sense! Lots of green, wood tones & hints of burgundy...Yup, burgundy!  I bought this new burgundy rug to layer for Christmas & figured after I'd just roll it up & store or donate! Well  after seeing it in the space I loved it especially with the rustic pub moose decor! Warm comfy winter cabin perfection.

This space needs a lot of work, well in our opinion... Fresh ceiling  paint ,carpet, wall treatment, chandy etc.. but since we're back house hunting {who knew trying to find a sprawling suburban farm ranch would be so hard..I KID! } we aren't sure if we will. For now we love it!

We picked this up at an antique mall many years back when Mark was collecting antique pub collections..This is one of the pieces we couldn't part with! The plaque pulls the burgundy from the red & rustic moose decor in nicely to the space!

I added a textured basket with chunky green candles, a vintage wood basketball game { so fun with company} & this mini red keg on the mantel!

I know I'll get questions about this piece.. it's gun shells mounted on a wood mooses antlers..I love the rustic coziness with the throws!
• I just remember I forgot a piece for  this space before I photographed...Ahhh typical Paige!

Do you have a basement or lower level you use a lot in the winter? Something so cozy about this comfy lower level entertainment space..Never thought I'd use some of these elements like the burgundy but that's why design & blogging are so creative + fun!

HAPPY Monday!

{ 6 Simple ways to Style a Shelf }

Hey, pals happy FRIDAY!! It's been super cold here in Michigan like bone chilling cold + windy...needless to say our front porch is still decorated for Christmas...not full on Christmas but Christmas haha! I've mentioned this before but I loveeee the cold! I refer to myself as an " old Clydesdale " haha..no joke! Well, point being I would've just braved the cold, but since this vertigo I can't take the cold whipping in my ears..Oh the joys of aging ha! So, I decided the clean & restyle my favorite thrifty cabinet that has gained a bunch of attention over the past few years...Honestly I understand why too. It's the most epic comfy cottage piece with the french wood window grids & chippy white paint! I had it styled for Christmas but after Christmas it needed a nice wipe down & fresh decor redo...while doing it I decided it needed it's own blog post & share my SIMPLE SHELF STYLING TIPS with you my pals...

1. Size

Start by putting your larger focal point pieces in first.  After you put the larger pieces in like leaning artwork as a back drop or a big planter, then fill in the smaller spots with trinkets etc..

2. Height

Height is a big one for shelf styling! You don't want everything the same height, because it can look boring,  too perfect & not cozy +fun! For height you can add books, large art work etc.. here I used books horizontally to stack wood candlesticks on!

3. Storage

When styling a shelf if you have unsightly things you want to hide use baskets like I did above!! They add texture, boldness & the obvious storage!

4. Heaviness

Start with the heavy bigger things on the bottom shelf & work your way upward.  This is just more eye appealing.  If you need to close the doors & step back, see if it's proportional.
• I used the above photo because the top shelf was too heavy & not appealing...aka redo ha.

5. Proportion

When styling I tend to start with the larger items on the right & smaller on the left..it's  just more appealing again.

6. Decor

Use items that you love & not because they match or look good together! If you don't love it, don't display it. Your shelves should represent YOU! I love sharing my collections I've collected over the years.  The biggest advice in the decor area is add greenery, texture & warmth..example blankets, faux plants wood pieces etc..

I hope you loved this simple 6 step / tip shelf styling process!! Play around,  showcase & love your space & style!!

Happy Friday!
