{ DIY Vintage Grow Bags }

Woo hooo it's the weekend officially!! I promised a few days ago a super cute & easy summery DIY or even a gift idea.. Today we had some amazing { 73  & breezy } weather here in the north so I got to photograph this little DIY outside while enjoying the weather!!! I've been having some horrid back issues & today's weather was perfect relaxing  weather, even if my back was killer!!! This has to be one of my all time favorite little DIY projects, not because it was on the cheap or super simple,but because it's so useful in the summer or even spring or just faux vintagey/cottagey home decor!

I grabbed these supplies at +Michaels Stores  while they were having a huge 70% off sale. I got these  plastic lined burlap bags for $2 each , some chalk paint { now in a smaller squirt bottle }  & some tags / string!

I chalked out a rectangle first!

I then painted the rectangle with some white/cream chalk paint with a sponge brush lightly & definitely not perfect..remember we're going for the rustic wore-in vintage look!
 After this part is finished you can add your detail { if any} & your herb/plant names..I kept it simple & used plain black for the lettering in a rustic kind of writing..haha or tried!

As I said above these bags are lined so you could potentially use them for growing real herbs etc..For $2 I couldn't pass them up!! They make  moving house or kitchen plants around super easy , or just simple faux decor inside or outside!

I added some cute little tags with a clothespin with some instructions on that herb!

Note: This is faux greenery/instructions.

I may or may not have used some cute weeds mixed in with the faux greenery...haha cute weeds..never thought I would say that!!

I thought the bags looked adorable with our back patio decor!! I may use these outside, but right now I'm loving them inside. Once I switch out our 4th of July decor I think I'll be using these cute little buggers!

What do you think of these vintage inspired grow bags? Do you remember them?? I can honestly say I didn't even know what these were until about a week ago. I searched Pinterest to see if there were a lot made  ,but couldn't really find anything ,which I liked!!!!  I always search to make sure my DIY isn't too popular .. I like to keep things fresh & original here on TQS for you guys! I did ask my mom & she did remember them {I'll keep her age hidden } ;)!

I hope you all have a great weekend!!

Happy Father's Day to all the Fathers here on earth , above & fur Fathers!!

{ Vintage Inspired 4th of July Mantel Using Free Finds!! }

Hey guys!! It feels like it's been like foreverrr since I blogged, which is only less then a week ha-ha. I miss you all!! Well today I'm sharing our little vintage inspired mantel using  FREE FINDS!! I'm not one usually to decorate for the 4th ,but this year I had some free goodies hanging around in the garage that screamed 4th of July! I literally ran outside in my plaids in the rain & grabbed everything in our pile of junk that looked vintage/4th-ish { I bet the neighbors enjoyed seeing that ha-ha}!

This little white { was cherry colored at one point } fireplace has been through it all &  you know what ? I still LOVE decorating it ! It's simple kinda like me! It's perfect for toasty fall nights & decorating!! Anyways back to some mantel decor  ;) !

Although the mantel is composed of mostly junk or vintage "treasures" I had to throw some sparkly sticks in the mix!! I mean what's 4th of July without some sparkly goodness :)))!

Side Note: The sparkle sticks are from +Michaels Stores  a few years back. The green branches were a thrift!

The flag tray/picture is actually a piece from 9/11 that my lovely hubby found!  I loved it so much I wanted to use it on the mantel!! I love the rustic flag & the wood frame! The rusted wire basket      { I'm wire basket obsessed} is a free find as well as the door knob! I love the mix of items, it reminds me of almost colonial type decor!

It was such luck that I had red & blue pots sitting amongst our pile of junk ,I mean treasures in the garage!

Other then the gorgeous flag, my favorite piece is this adorable rusted ole lantern!! We have a few in different colors, but the black fit  I thought!

See what a pile of junk can create? I seriously spent ZERO on this mantel & zero to me means amazingness! I hope you enjoyed this little mantel of ours! I'll be back soon with the rest of our 4th decor & a super cute DIY you don't want to miss!!

Happy Wednesday!!

{ Our Vintage & Floral Backyard Patio Reveal! }

I can't believe it's already Wednesday !!! I hope you all are having a great start to the summer with some amazing weather & activities!! My hubby worked the whole weekend,but we got so much stuff done outside including our back patio finally! I've been messing around with this space for over a month now & decided I'm posting with whatever I have this weekend ha-ha! Sometimes you have to make do with what you have in certain spaces & this is definitely one of those times! Don't get me wrong, I love this space ,but from a design/decorating point this wouldn't have been my first choice in colors! We ended up buying all new furniture with the exception of a few pieces when we moved in 2012 & well...the red cushions were what came with this table, so we worked around it!

I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money this year because it most likely will be our last! When we move { no, we haven't found a house..yet! } we probably will buy/DIY a few new pieces, but until then it's splashed in red!!! You all know me & bright bold Art Deco-ish types are not my style of choice! Working around the color wasn't to hard after adding some of my vintage/ rustic treasures to the space!!

The pillow was a DIY on no sew cushions/pillows! The fabric was purchased at +Hobby Lobby  & the milk jug &chippy brown furniture were all thrifts/garbage finds.

The wood crate was a gift & the vintage colored glass bottles are all garbage finds. The faux greenery was purchased +IKEA USA  ! The jute placemats are +Better Homes and Gardens  from Walmart !

I've always liked setting a space with a rug, & the outdoors is no exception! This is our 2nd or 3rd rug for outside & let me tell you -I LOVE THIS RUG! The last two were plushy outdoor ones, but were always all dirty & wet. We got this $400 rug at +Kohl's  for $27!!!!  It's super neutral, soft & clean!

Little story behind the table..the night we got the keys to our house we went out in the box-truck picking up everything we needed before the truck had to go back . We needed an outside table & this one was perfect in size, & price { $200 }! That was a steal & the cushions came WITH! See, so that's why we have these red cushions..that most of the time I like!!

-Blessed Beyond Measure-
The metal chalkboard art was purchased on sale at Hobby Lobby for under $10! Something about it I just liked! I wanted to add some type of chalkboard/black decor so this was perfect for outside & the elements!

The frame is a vintage/thrift find my husband found!! I bought the rustic copper 'M' at Hobby lobby for $12 & then framed it { Actually my husband's idea }!
The step decorations & mats are also thrift finds! The two cream & brown crocks are garbage finds! The storage bench was also a garbage find { I can't wait to show you guys what I'm doing with that !! }!

This backyard has no shade- AT ALL! We need some type of umbrella at all times considering we have no trees..The back of our house has all tinted windows,even the patio door!  One nice smaller tree would be nice, but it's a great clean flat grassy space!!

The umbrella is from +Ace Hardware for the bargain price of $30!!
The decorative pillows are from +Target

Even though this isn't the biggest backyard { big for our city } it's cute, clean & functional! The whole yard is lined in natural mulch with huge boulders as the border . The patio we added onto in 2013 & painted it with +Rust-Oleum  heat resistant patio paint in Sandstone! About 10ft from the patio we have a DIY built-in fireplace with a gravel area & a little mini barn shed behind the big  white wooden garage. So see the back patio decor kinda mistakenly  coordinates with the rest of the backyard haha!!   I'm not one for any type of wood deck or patio , weird I know!! Something about the look & things being able to get underneath/ overall appeal never set well with me. I'm much more a fan of a flat concrete space, so this has worked well for us!! If you remember last year we had the pop up gazebo with the mini bar..After some hassle & storms it was a goner!!!

{ DIY Vintage Tractor Stool }

What a gorgeous Saturday it was today!! My hubby worked half the day ,but was home early enough to get some things done around the outside of our home while enjoying the sun, cool breeze &some refreshing lemonade!! After we mulched the front yard & finished our back patio, we decided & when I say "we" I actually mean my husband decided to do a little DIY'n !!! I can't take any of the credit for this DIY other then taking 'Before & After' pictures ha-ha! I actually almost made him write this post up as well since he's quite the typist! Anyways we had this cool vintage green/rusted tractor seat sitting in our garage & my husband has been itching to do something with it for weeks now..so today we did { HE did }! He had an old 1980's brownish orange stool he  found & thought why not change out the seat for an old vintage tractor seat?!

1. First flip the stool upside down & unscrew the seat.

2. Clean up the base ! We used some basic foam cleaner!

3. Screw the screws back into the original holes the old seat was fastened to! You might need washers or larger screws depending on the original stool you use. My husband ran up to ACE & bought some new larger screws for under $5!

I'm in love with this rusty gem! I'm still thinking where can I use this at in the house our outside ha-ha! For now it will stay in my hubby's garage/shop area!

I love this little project & for close to nothing!! It also would make a great affordable/customized gift!!

I just love the vintage look paired with the little bit of silver & black!! Any guy would love this "manly" stool! These tractor chairs /stools range in price from $25 all the way up to $100!! We made this for under $15!!!

{ BBQ Honey Garlic Grilled Chicken Sandwich }

The weekend is here & that means barbecues & delish recipes to kick of the summer fun! My husband loves anything barbecue, so what better way then to make a grilled pulled chicken BBQ sandwich that can be a dinner or lunch eat!  My  recipe is so yummy& simple you'll surly be asked for seconds from your guest or husband ;)!!

.........................................Recipe...................................

.2 chicken breast or 3 cans of all white chicken breast
. Texas toast
. Your choice of BBQ sauce { I use Open Pit } 1-2 cups
. Mayo
.Butter
.Jar minced garlic - 1 TBS
.Honey - 3 TBS
.Pepper/Salt - pinch of each

...........................................Directions..........................................
Combine the cooked {shredded} chicken in a bowl & add above ingredients! Mix the ingredients until saturated! Take your Texas toast & spread a pinch of mayo on each side of the inside of the bread & butter on the outside! I used zero cal spray butter for the outside of the bread, but either is fine! Spread the mix evenly  on the bread & grill until golden brown! I usually spray the pan first to get that golden brown coloring,& grill for about 2 minutes on each side on med/low heat!

 Side Note: The mini honey crock is a vintage find from over Memorial Day weekend in the north!

Serve with some potato chips and spicy garlic dill pickles! I also like to drizzle some BBQ sauce over the top of the sandwich for some added flavor!

I hope you & your guest enjoy this as much as we do in our home!

Happy & healthy weekend everyone!
