{ DIY Filing Cabinet to Garment Organizer for under $10!! }

Welcome back to my little blog & happy Wednesday! I'm so sorry I've been off my regular schedule of blogging 4-5 days a week, but this past weekend was very hard on our little family. When life throws curve balls for no reasons to good people it literally makes you want to snap...We're trying to stay calm & think that the "higher power" has another plan, but let's just say some "people" are cruel. Anyways we're going to be okay & after some regrouping I decided I needed to get back to my work aka TQS & I had just the project to feature today!!! So a few days back I spotted these 2 black filing cabinets being pitched & I've been wanting some, soooo of COURSE I snagged them!! They were in fair condition & I knew I wanted one for my husband's office { I'll be blogging SOON} & the other I wanted to DIY for our master bedroom into an undergarment organizer!! So a little back story...we came from having "his & hers" pretty large closets at our condo. When we moved into this home we only had one little walk-in-ishh closet & so we decided to make that into a vanity. We picked up some +IKEA USA  built-in style closets & a middle piece that was just a cheapy white organizer from +Target ! I wanted something more cozy & cottagey with more room, so I broke out the +Walmart  Waverly brand chalk paint & got to work!!!

S U P P L I E S:
  • Paint Brush or Sponge Brush
  • Chalk Paint of any kind
  • Brillo pad to distress or sand paper
  • Dark Wax
  • Tags/labels or use paper

D I R E C T I O N S:

  • Wash entire cabinet & dry.
  • Apply 2-3 coats chalk paint { messy or uneven doesn't matter }
  • Distress in spots where natural "wear & tear" would happen
  • Hit those distressed spots with dark wax & wipe extra off
  • Add tags/ labels

I decided to leave the inside black for more contrast & to save paint. I hit all the edges with dark wax for that rusted/ aged look!

I kept the styling simple with a little lamp from +HomeGoods  & some flowers from +Hobby Lobby . The metal watering can & chalkboard charm are from +Kohl's .

I love this little customized garment organizer!! It's so deep & gives the room so much charm with the generic closet built-ins!

I had some old business cards laying around, so I used the backs for the labels. Of course my Sharpie decided to run out..Anyways I love the way they turned out! The old rustic charm gives our little cottage bedroom even more charm than before. I will be doing a fall tour of our bedroom & some new things happening in our cozy room asap!

I used the dark wax to hit the handles & chip a few areas etc..

 What do you guys think of this simple & thrifty DIY? I mean for under $10 & the charm & storage it adds has me in love!!!! Let me know below what you guys think?

Wishing you all a happy Wednesday!!!!

{ -Farmhouse Style- Fall Fireplace & Makeover! }

Welcome back into our little suburban cottage today! I've been mentioning I've been a busy little bee lately, & I have been!!! I always get this urge to freshen things up right before the holidays & that's exactly what I did these past few days...So our little white cottage fireplace got a simple & super fresh look! I ended up painting it with some Waverly brand chalk paint  from good ole +Walmart !  I used the regular white & it was the most bright /crisp white I think I've ever used!! I love the Waverly brand of chalk paint & it's under $10 { see post on favorite chalk paints -->5 Best Chalk Paints!} ..Anyways I also gave our coffee table a nice fresh white refresh too { post soon }. Today I'm sharing our fireplace though & with it fully neutrally decorated for fall!! You can see our "Early Fall Mantel" & the before makeover here-->Early Fall Vintage Mantel  Enough rambling come see the fresh look & our neutral farmhouse fall mantel!

This little fireplace of ours needed a fresh coat of paint so bad!! I had quickly spray painted it after my grandma so kindly thrifted it to us when we moved in this house at the end of 2012. I knew my style was changing & I wanted some"cottage" goods & a fireplace so this was perfect. I wasn't heavily into working with chalk paint yet, so I used some gross white spray paint..eeek!  This time I used a fresh pure white to freshen up the cubbies/ base, and I love the now "matte" chalk look too. You can see the fireplace box before it got some white here-->Thrifty Fireplace Mantel Box

I love the way this little makeover tuned out! I loved the mantel box before, but for the upcoming holidays I wanted something fresh & neutral! I just painted it with the same paint as the fireplace & then took some dark wax & hit the natural spots that were already distressed!

I wanted to keep the decor simple & super fresh like the new paint job. I used some white pumpkins from +Michaels Stores  & +Target . I then picked out two colors of books & used them to stack the cream pumpkins! I added some simple greenery that reminded me of pumpkin patches & done. The wheat colored dried arrangement in the back was thrifted from my gram. I loved the dried, earthy fall look & it worked as a great backdrop.
 .

Mark found this out for trash a few years ago! I knew as soon as he brought it home I wanted it to add that thrifted cottage charm to our little fireplace mantel. All these years & I kept it the original distressed forest green...you guys know that's a longggg time for me haha!

The simplicity of creamy neutral pumpkins in the fall have me loving this season even more!! The vintage bulb garland is from +Marshalls for under $10. I love how vintage & cozy it looks at night with the little fireplace going.

What do you guys think of our little fireplace makeover? Do you decorate more with color of neutrals for fall? Leave me comments below & catch up with me via my social media links { Below }.

Wishing you all a happy Thursday!

{ Cottage Style Wall Decor & New Sign! }

Today's post is one I've been so excited to share with you guys!! So a few months back I spotted an Instagram-->Thread and Wood feed that had me in ahhhh! I knew as soon as I started scrolling I wanted one of their signs & that's exactly what I did!!! I picked out the cutest "Bed & Breakfast" sign & have been patiently waiting for if to come all the way from Thunder Bay, Canada!! I received it a few days ago & immediately hung it up on our little rustic cottage wall! It fit perfect for the space & the simple farmhouse charm added just what I was searching for to finish that wall!!

Y'all the packaging was soooo cute! Coming all the way from Canada I was worried about it getting smashed etc..but it came perfect! It was double wrapped & came with the cutest twine, clip & cards!

The craftsmanship is what had me so excited about these signs! I love that the wood is almost raw & also the variations in the wood. The simplicity of the wording & font, yet preciseness! Such clean & crisp lines...I'm just plain obsessed haha!

The sign came with an already attached simple hook which I was also thankful for!!! I mean you could use this sign just about ANYWHERE even just sitting or propped against something..the fact that it came with hardware attached in case you do want to hang it was nice!! I love the way it's sitting forward off the wall in this picture..It gives that nice vintage cottage look I love!!!

This boxwood wreath is from +Target  $45. The white shelf is from +HomeGoods on sale for $7 .

 It goes so perfectly in our upper living room! It's that perfect accessory this space needed to be almost finished..only 4 years later ha!!

The pillows are from +Target+Marshalls , +IKEA USA  &  +Pottery Barn .

You can see this space I blogged a few months ago here -->Farmhouse/ Cottage Wall Decor

I'm loving our +Ruggable® 2-Piece Rug System  in the living room now too. Search blog for that post, definitely a must see if you need to be able to wash your rug easily!

Of course I had to add some cute little burlap pumpkins for the holidays! This little space is so cozy & simple now!!

What do you guys think about this space & our awesome new sign?? Be sure to check out Thread and Wood on all of their social media -below- for more signs & goodies they offer!! They've been such an awesome company to work with & I'll definitely being ordering more!!!

Wishing you all a happy Wednesday!

{ 3 Ways to Add Exterior Fall Charm with $1 Flowers!! }

Oh Monday you were nice to me, but super busy!!! I swear this time of year not only gets more cozy with everything fall, but it seems like everything gets a bit crazier..usually in a good way around this time of the year. Today was an accomplishing Monday that's for sure!! I can't wait to share some things I've been working on & some "happy mail" from one of my clients today!!! Sometimes I need to step back & just thank the higher power for letting me do this shop & have this little life of ours I adore so much. Definitely not perfect..but perfect for us! Today's post is for everyone who wants to add fall charm to outside of their home without breaking the bank or spending hundreds on pumpkins for looks! I used to put out pumpkins, but honestly they're just kind of a pain for us hahaha..I decided to just add a few tiny ones this year & go more for greenery/flowers since we have flower boxes now & hanging planters etc.. I picked some Dollar Tree leaf garland up & used a whole $6 worth on the front. You can see our fall front porch reveal here:2016 Fall Porch

**Few different bundle colors from Dollar Tree.

1.  H a n g i n g  B a s k e t s

I picked these up from +The Home Depot  last year & I'm so glad I did! I love the neutral rustic look & they've been so durable! I filled them a while ago with some grass bundles from +Hobby Lobby   & some hydrangeas from +Michaels Stores,but it was looking too summery, so I headed to Dollar Tree & picked up some simple & thrifty fall leave garland for a $1 each!! I ended up getting 6 garlands & that was just enough for our whole front!

2.  P o r c h  D e c o r

I'll say 80% of my flowers on our little porch are form Dollar Tree!! They're outside in the elements & I'm not paying a fortune! Inside is a different story, butttt anyway hahah I wanted to share some of the flowers & ways I used them on our porch this year! I mostly just "potted" them in old buckets & baskets! Super simple & cozy!

Side Note: The mini burlap pumpkins are from Dollar Tree as well. Sorry I haven't responded to the emails on these.

3.  F l o w e r  B o x e s

The flower boxes are actually what got this little blog post going...I was just going to remove the white flowers from the boxes & add some simple fall flowers, then I got the idea to do a little more & blog it! I mean $6 in Dollar Tree garland { you can get filler greenery there too } & you can instantly warm up your exterior for nearly nothing & within 10 minutes!  I just strung the garland all in between the green grass fillers in the boxes & done!

I hope you guys liked this quick & thrifty post! It doesn't take much to warm of the outside of your home when you can get $1 garland & flowers/greenery from Dollar Tree!  What do you think of these little touches?

Happy Tuesday!

{ Farmhouse Style Quaint Fall Entryway Decor }

Hey guys and happy Monday!! I hope you guys had a gorgeous weekend! Ours was spent doing nothing out of the norm & that was actually kind of a treat in itself!! Mark worked mostly & I got a bunch of things switched out, freshened up & just ENJOYED my weekend...For someone with OCD & that creative mind I literally am always wound up haha! This Michigan weather has been the most perfect too these  past few days. I'm so excited to show you guys what I've been working on & some new things up & coming!! Something about the fall is so cozy & magical..I swear as soon as fall hits the inspiration starts flowing & our home becomes an even cozier sanctuary for us..Okay, enough with fall loving, but sorry today's post is also fall related hahah..I hope you guys don't mind all these fall posts ..I promise though today's post is fun & all about our quaint "small" front entryway styled with some unique, cozy & festive items!!

I've been into really using just stuff I already have on hand, or actually use day-to-day!! I learned that along time ago in this little "blogland" & decorating/designing etc.. Try to use things you normally use in everyday life for accents or decor!!  I have noticed myself implementing that while styling or staging a space. I used my bags I actually use a lot & just placed some "gathered" style fall items inside the leather tote! The pop of greenery was nice against the neutral palette in this space!!

I added the bucket of pumpkins literally right before photographing...Sometimes you just need a little something!! The pumpkins are from +Michaels Stores  & the buckets are from Ollies!! I got the buckets for $5  a few weeks ago & snagged two!!

I love these mini burlap pumpkins from Dollar Tree & decided to use a few in this space! I like how they're simple & small enough to just add that bit of festivity to this area. Our front entryway isn't the smallest, but also definitely not large...I do like how it's  a bit separated from directly into the living room, but the "step-up" ledge hinders benches & bottom footing...With that being said, this space is still super functional & we use it everyday!

The greenery is new & from +IKEA USA

The crate was a free DIY from a local shop & the vintage brown glass bottles are also thrifty finds. The white pitcher is form +HomeGoods .

I hope you guys loved this space! It's super cozy, but also very functional & styled so simply for that more "practical" home entry space!

Do you guys decorate your entrance for fall? What kind of things do you like to use??

Wishing you all a great week!

What do you guys think about these items I put together for our fall bedroom? Anything you like to add/use when the fall months hit? Feel free to leave me comments below or connect with me via my social media links { below} !!
Wishing you all a happy & healthy Wednesday!
