{ Cozy Spring Upper Living room & Fireplace Refresh }

Hey pals!!! Today's post has been one I've been talking about for the past few weeks, actually since before our little Florida spring break road trip..I'll be blogging that soon too..eek I feel so behind ha. Anyways today I'm sharing some cozy spring refreshed around the house since it finally feels like spring & today even summer..I mentioned via my Instagram HERE that I have been down physically which intern messes with my mental state at times.. But then the Saturday night decor bug hit & I got super inspired & added just about every hydrangea I had in our little cottage hahaha..seriously! I wanted to share some of the charming & thrifty ways I added spring on a whim at 10pm! I swear refreshing spaces & feeling inspired to make everything beautiful around you truly makes you feel like a million bucks! Okay, I'm doing it again..blabbing, come see some spring goodness around our upper living room below...

  

I just blogged about this fun DIY  HERE . If you haven't had a chance to see it, I hope you will!! I love this little thrifty basket..charm & flowers- need I say more?!

 

I want it to feel so bright & colorful & by that I mean flower colors..I can't get too crazy with the colors, but the cozy bright greenhouse flowers splashed everywhere is nice to wake up to! I added tons of hydrangeas, moved that huge HomeGoods canvas painting to the living room wall from my office & I LOVE IT! It adds so much warmth & height to the room,and it's hydrangeas in a vintage wood frame..YES PLEASE!

 

 

I kept the mantel pretty simple with carrying the bright greenhouse theme with some simple terracotta pots, greenery & the vintage watering-can. I've used this watering-can on our mantel before for fall, but couldn't resist.... chippy, thrifty, vintage antiques are my jam haha!

  

To tie in the fireplace mantel I added some terracotta pots around the living room with some mini succulents & then added the galvanized buckets to tie in with the watering-can via the mantel!

 

 

What do you guys think about our spring living room & fireplace refresh? I'm a tad bit obsessed with how it turned out!! Though we don't have a huge home, I feel blessed to have it..As I was just writing that last part I hope you guys will say a happy thought for us as we look at another potential new home on Thursday! I will always love this one so much though...cherishing it! What was your favorite part?

{ DIY Spring Cottage Mailbox Basket Front Door Decor }

HAPPY Tuesday, pals!!!! Eeeek I'm so excited to be back in my office creating, writing, designing, blogging & everything HOME!! I want to apologize for my week long break as I wasn't intending it to be that much of a gap in posts...I haven't been feeling well physically & that puts my mind in a different place, so I'm so sorry. I tend not to follow the masses or be a people pleaser nor keep up with Jones' but sometimes running a business can be hard, especially when you put yourself out there like blogging etc.. Anyways today I'm refreshed & ready to post about something I'm super passionate about but have only shared a few times in the past few months..DIY!!!! So, I was at HomeGoods the other day shopping for a client & spotted this post mailbox {post} basket on sale for under $10..umm coming home with me was a MUST ha! I brought it home & knew exactly what I wanted to do with it as our front door is in a state of disaster...more on that soon! I grabbed some simple leftover supplies I had in my office & got to work. In less than 10 minutes I had new charming door decor! Come see how I did it below...

 

S U P P L I E S  +  H O W  T O:

• Greenery or Flowers of any kind you like.
• Burlap or fabric for inside the basket. { I used an old farmhouse pillow cover }
• Nail, 3M or String to attach to the door. I used a piece of string & pieced it threw the basket & tied to door knocker.

So the basket did come with two hooks on the back { See above photo }, but I didn't want to use two nails that spaced apart on my door. This is why I used the above method instead. You can do whichever is better for you!

 

Inspiration comes from all over for me & this little tiny coffee cup filled with creamy vanilla cappuccino was my inspiration for the type of flowers & greenery I used! I wanted something fresh but dusty cozy vintage looking...I used lavender sprigs, & some other lightly colored green branches ..sorry I'm horrible at flower names!

Side Note: If you know the names of any of these flowers leave them in the comments! FYI flowers are faux.

 

 

This door will be getting a quick makeover once we add something new...hint ha! Until then, I'm loving this spruced up simple door decor & this basket, well it has my heart..How ADORABLE & thrifty..check check! I hope you love this tiny little #DIY. { Cottage Style Spring Garden Inspired Side Table Decor Inspiration }

Happy weekend guys!!! I'm so excited to be posting this for you...I'm so sorry it's  a bit late getting out, as you already know I usually don't post during the weekends, but I had to get this out to you since it's finally starting to look like spring around here in the mitten. I'm still a bit under the weather that's why this is a bit late, but the other day while stopping in at @homegoods I spotted the cutest little watering can from a new line they're carrying..of course I scooped one up with no real intentions of knowing where I was going to put it..I got home & looked at our side table { vintage dresser } & it looked a bit bare & not so cozy...I got to work gathering items, dusting {eeek } & then I remembered I picked that little gem up!!! Needless to say I'm in love this this comfy little spot in our upper level living room! Come see the inspiration below with some of my favorite little treasures..

 

I love me some good vintage books & mini clocks! These are all free vintage finds from all over. You can see in the pictures I went back & forth with using the white tray for structure/ balance & leaving the items free standing...The tray is from @ikea.

 

I picked up this vintage inspired 3 tier wood planter for under $15 & it fit perfectly right here. It helped add definition & height to the space & looks nice in front of the big picture window! My very own little faux garden..my kind of garden haha!

 

Because I frequent HomeGoods so much { whoops.. } haha I see that they have brand - HAWS- & I'm obsessed!! I have 3 other things from this brand I want & I'll be sure to share with you all sooon..Think "vintage garden style ".

{ Cozy Cottage Farmhouse Styled Kitchen Hutch }

Hey everyone & happy Monday or should I say almost Tuesday at this point! I'm so sorry that a fresh post was not out this morning for my regular readers...I have been sick with a little cold since Saturday & I just needed some extra rest which usually doesn't happen for me #ineversleep. I did whoever want to get this post out because it did brighten my day while I wasn't feeling so well. Yes, I still worked a bit while I wasn't feeling well because 1. This space needed it & 2. Redoing things always cheers me up. We've had this homemade wood hutch since about 2014 & when we got it, it was just plain 2 x 4 wood. I grabbed some $5 white paint I had { latex, gasp } haah & painted it. Fast forward 4 years & it's still one of my favorite pieces..it fits the spot perfect next to the stove that is about 3 inch outward due to a huge gas line that would cost  a lot to move so this offsets that & it hides our trash can & homes our dogs' water bowl...win win right?! I always try to make spaces cozy & charming with practical functionality..this is one of those spaces to a tee! If you're a long time reader you would know that many of, well actually 75% of our treasures are actual vintage/ antiques. My husbands business allowed him to come upon these frequently & for that I'll always be grateful. This hutch contains some of my favorite pieces..

The greenery adds the warmth I crave & helps bring that greenhouse/cottage feel I like around our home. The 3 planter is from Rae Dunn & although I'm not a huge fan or collector I did pick this up quite sometime ago & it fits perfectly in this space...because you know #blackthumb

The large sign is what started this little refresh..It's from Hobby Lobby on sale for under $20 & I love the look...a perfect old sign replica. The dishes are vintage from my gram & the milk glass bottles are also vintage. The spice rack is one of my most favorite finds & although it needs a little work it works so well in this space.

{ How to Give Any Home Farmhouse & Cottage Charm with this Simple Guide..}

Heyyy everyone & welcome back to TQS! Thanks for popping back in on the blog today. Yesterday was one of those days where I just couldn't let things slide...{ if you seen my rant on IG } . I'm one of those people who can take a lot of things & just dust them off, but some things really get to me & I needed to voice them. Today though this post is all about how to achieve that ever so popular Farmhouse or Cottage charm around your own home. I've been into the cottage/ farmhouse look for quite sometime now & grew up around junkin', DIY, pickin', cottage life & being in northern Michigan which if you don't already know is known for this kind of charm. With being a practical home blogger I like to share simple tips for you guys so you can replicate or make your home cozy with these types of trends  in your own home. Come take a peek at a few things to get you that cozy charm..

 

1. Greenery

This is my go to obviously. Adding greenery is super simple, affordable & it can be used over & over in so many different ways. From wreaths to stems to buckets full & so much more. I get a lot of my flowers from thrifty spots & use them for years. You can see my post on the best cottage/farmhouse greenery HERE.

 

2. Wood. 

This is something I crave in our home all over. I'm not talking high-end, clear-coated or laminate big huge wood pieces either [ not that there is anything wrong with that style ]..I'm talking beat-up chipped, vintage rough style pieces. The older the piece, the more charm it will show..at least that is my motto ha. I love me a good chippy, rustic piece in our home. It adds that cozy appeal without even trying & most of the time you can find these pieces from garage sales to antique stores & even on garbage night..no shame here! It doesn't take a ton of money to add cozy cottagey charm.. The chippy frame below is one of my favorite finds that someone pitched!!

 

3. Metal.

This one can be confusing for people to grasp. Metal? Isn't that more for modern styles?!..Yes, but things like buckets, galvanized tubs etc.. can be super farmhousy & help achieve that look. Things like the galvanized tubs can be great for adding greenery, storing linens etc..

4. Linens/ Pillows

This is one I think a lot of people when decorating for this look overlook really often!! I mean it's one of the coziest ways to add this style & charm but it can be a bit tricky..I suggest looking on Etsy, Ikea or HomeGoods which offers a bunch farmhouse style pillows & linens now. I have a bunch of the large tie-style farm pillows I picked up at IKEA & HomeGoods. I've been ticking stripe obsessed for the last few months & surprisingly I have found many things at these types of stores..

5. Barn Doors

Barn doors are a given, but add SO MUCH character without even trying. We got our barn door as free find that someone was trying to get rid of on one of my husband's job sites...Original 1940's hardware & everything..This thing is massive & resides in our dining room. It gives a great separating to the lower level & adds warmth in the dining. Just about any hardware store is snow offering 

 5. Vintage Elements

Vintage elements like books, containers, milk cans, tobacco baskets, scales,crates & crocks are another super simple way to add charm without going crazy or spending a ton to achieve it. I also like sharing these types of easier ways to add charm without adding shiplap or subway tile etc..because let's face it not everyone lives in a owned home, so for apartment dwellers etc..these are easy & not so permanent ways to cozy things up.

6. Texture

Adding texture was something newer for me about 4 years ago...I have been around this style for years, but this was new..Adding things like Jute rugs can help achieve this without going overboard. If you don't like the jute style or can't afford them, no worries you can add things like burlap & baskets which is super affordable.

7. Slip covered Furniture

I've always been super into Pottery Barn furniture & my gram always had cloth furniture. When we would visit her up north it was so big & cozy & that's where my love for cloth slipcovered goods come from. Although kind of a pain compared to leather, they do make everything look cozier & you can get them for cheap now. I have a full post HERE

8. Signs

Old vintage signs are the easiest way to add that rustic vintage feel. I know they can be pricey, but so many places offer them now for cheap & the remakes are just as nice. I have some from all over & the real things & I love them equally.. .You can even get some at chains like Hobby Lobby now. We've come far people haha.

9. Antique Glass

This is one of the areas where I wasn't all into until recently.. I love vintage dishes but glass I wasn't super into. Then my love for mason jars, old bottles & jars stepped in haha..The mason jars & jam jars add so much to a dining room or kitchen space & again you can find these items just about ANYWHERE these days.

 

 

10. Neutral Walls/ Colors.

This is another given for most. Keep your rooms simple with fresh white paint, creams, tans & accents with distressed blacks, chippy greens & browns. Neutral color pallet is the easiest way t decorate & really show off the vintage/antique goods you're displaying.
